Here's a little taster of my overclock atm:

Will post more details in a bit :D

Does the DS3 support quad core?

I read an article on this detailing various boards supporting quad or not. I think ds3 needs to be revision 2 for a definate yes, revision 1 is a possible with a new bios release. It only has 3 phase regulators though ? Couldnt that be a problem at least for overclocking anyway.

Is that prime stable?

Last night orthos ran for about 6 hours before failing. I could get it stable with some more voltage, but that would be around 1.5V actual on the cpu with about 1.55V set in Bios. Im not prepared to put that much through it as this is my 24/7 rig that i need for this last year (masters) at uni.

3.5ghz needs only around 1.44V so i doubt the huge hike in voltage for an extra 100mhz is really worth it.

Im going to work on having the lowest possible voltage with 3.5ghz, and will tweak the ram timings to aim for 4-4-3-4- @ 500mhz.

not bad, is that from boot or via clockgen in windows?

max i can do from boot is 475 with the kentsfield, which is 100% stable

anything higher from boot is unstable, ive not tried clockgen yet though.

also what vcore are you pumping through it? (cpu-z 1.37 is out and shows it correctly ;))

.. and finally is it a worthy upgrade from the dh :D?

lol have fun!

My P5B dlx board.

Max x7 Multi

what vcore is that?

I have come to the conclusion that the 965 chipset is better than the 975 chipset!

I'm playing with a DS3 at the mo and I have to say it feels more solid!

P.S Devious

Prime screenie please! :D

Just so I'm clear before I give this 6700ES a bit of a workout (just to give it some idea whats about to happen once I've watercooled it and have my flt stick of ddr2 replaced).. whats the default vcore on these things?

cpu-z is showing 1.175v??? surely not?

1.2v or there abouts.

Get CPU-Z 1.37 all other versions fail to show correct vcore.

Fine up to about 1.55v on water.

You wont need more that that I wouldn't thought.

Be interesting what you get as Devious ES 6700 maxed out at 3.7ghz and yet his E6600 (the same as mine ) is good for 4ghz :D

revision B1 if thats any guide.. I'm still finding it slightly insane that the stock 1mb superpi was 19s on an old windows install with 1 stick of ram and no motherboard drivers installed.

I've been around for a while and I've never seen that sort of performance increase in a chip swap and I change a LOT...

Welcome to the world of the conroe!

These things are seriously fast at 3.6-4ghz

They really are that good! :D

mwahahahaha this one has been up to 4.7 on phase so I don't see 4ghz on water being much of a stretch.. we shall see.

Frankly at 2ghz it would eat the x2 I had for breakfast so double that speed isn't entirely necessary.

The higest x8 multi i can boot up with is 485, I then clockgened upto 500, its 1mb super pi stable max and even will reboot at 505 FSB. 475x8 seems 100% stable, even playing oblivion, my P5W wouldnt pay that over 3.6GHz so Ive gained 200Mhz.

That was with 1.5375v in bios, cpu-z doesnt seem to work for me ?

A worth upgrade will be one that dos 4ghz 100% stable...... one day :p

nice, how much vdimm are you putting through the team sticks?

ive got the exact same sticks / weeks / version as you, remember lol

im putting 2.35v @ 475fsb 1:1 4,4,4,10 (4,20, 10,10,10,10)

A good buy werent they :D even more so with todays prices!

I was putting 2.35v thought them at 544Mhz, not sure whether they needed it or not as its was the board flaking out.

Currently at 475Mhz 4-4-3-4 i have them at 2.15v

lol, shows how much i know about ddr2 timings :o

// goes and corrects timing and voltage lol

man i must be crazy, i was roasting my memory at loose timings

its doing the 475, 4,4,3,4 @ 2.0v

whereas before i was at 475, 4,4,4,10 @ 2.35v

lol
