***The Official Core i5 Overclocking Thread***

1 hour completed test at 3.2GHz. About all we're going to see with the stock cooler I think!

Has anyone actually overclocked their i5 yet ? I thought by now this thread would be awash with enthausiastic clockers and 4GHz i5 clocks, I'm starting to wonder if the clocks are low and hence people don't won't to share their figures ?

Not many decent coolers out yet & expect others are waiting for adapters to come out?

As a point of reference on the temps btw, after gaming in TF2 (single thread so should have been using the Intel Turbo) the max temp recorded was 60c so is obviously a lot lighter on the chip then the torture burn in software (I know we all know that but thought it was worth posting :)). The game runs much better. I had the odd stutter and slow down with my E8400 (stock) but flawless with this.

I'd imagine a lot of people are still waiting to recieve kit and brackets, we know these chips are good they can do 4.2ghz on decent air cooling.

I think a lot of the early adopters went for the MSI Promo boards which won't have arrived yet for many. I'd expect to see a rise in results over the weekend once people have had their kit arrive and time to set it up and start testing.

Well my build is done but I'm still making sure windows and everything is sorted before I even touch the clocking.

4ghz is the minimum clock I would expect from i5

If not it just aint worth it over i7 920

4ghz appears to be the normal sort of figure these are hitting from what I've seen. Oh it may not be worth it for you but for a 280 quid rig if it hits 4Ghz I will be very pleased.

I've not even had the chance to push mine yet :( been at the pub this evening. Temps look good though for stock cooling loading up at 58c and that was earlier when my house was fairly warm. so we have a bit of room to move there.

Will get on it tommorow 100%

I would love to get started on overclocking, however im having some problems (usualy do with me).

Mainly, that when i restart my PC it seems to turn off, then on for about 9 seconds then off again. It will repeat this three times and then boot up perfectly...

Second I have no idea how to update my bios.

Anyone help with that first problem? I have a thread in the General section instead of clogging up this thread, if anyone has any ideas!

That is the BIOS reverting back to stock. Basically means you have a failed overclock
