Can't prime yet as the stock cooler can't cope at this speed :
The UD5 is the best I have tried out of a that, a P6T Deluxe and MSI Platinum.
Yep same mobo as you and similar Ram (Corsair DDR3-1600 3 x 1GB cas 9) with the latest official F4 bios. Cannot get my I7-965 stable above 3.75Ghz. Low multi, high bclk or even very high multi whatever it will post @ 4Ghz all day but not load Windows. Yet I have seen others get over 4ghz on air (I have the Noctua HP12 with dual push pull fans and low temps around 38C idle). Suspect its still my DDR3 and the UD5 not liking some of the settings but going to wait a little longer as the F5 beta bios is currently doing the rounds so I will wait to see if that does the trick as not prepared to play with high volts as a few guys have already fried their I7s by going too high!! Not looking to join them!I am having trouble posting above 171 BCLK.I think i may have a very poor i7 920.I have browsed many forums and as far as i can tell bclk 180+ seems easy.I have tried a few bios versions as well (f3,f4k,f4l,f4m currently on F4).
These settings are stable (6 hours of linx).(The hottest core 67)
21 X 170 (with turbo on and HT) - 3570Mhz (Tried turbo and HT off)
all power managment off
vcore 1.31 tried up to 1.45
cpu/vtt 1.180 tried up to 1.360
cpu pll 1.84
qpi pll 1.14
dram 1.66 (1.65 in bios) 8,8,8,24 2t
qpi x36,unicore x16 and mem x8 (auto settings= x36,x8 x20) .Also tried qpi 36,unicore 12 and mem 6
The board will restart a couple of times until the failed overclock message is displayed on anything above 171.Tried 172-180 and 180-190 all with the same result.Looks like i am unlucky this time.
Anybody else have a poor i7?
My Spec:

One things for sure these I7s are all very toasty when overclocked with HT enabled.
w3bbo, I'm assuming that's on water? What temps are you getting?
Yeah I read all of that before but thanks anyway. My understanding is that Gigabyte still need to do more bios work which is why they are now on F5 as on Auto the DDR3 settings are still causing lots of problems for some which is why I think it hurts your OC. The 965 should easily hit 4Ghz on air and xtremesystems has many going a lot higher on extreme coolants. Time will tell. Having an unlocked multi helps a lot but still not sure its worth the extra £ over a 920 as if you kill the 920 its no big deal. Killing a 965 is going to hurt a lot which is why I am happy to wait a little longerI was thinking of getting the 965 for the unlocked multipliers ,and they are possibly higher binned also. The cost put me off but i may get another i 920 and sell this one.The f4 bios may not be the best at the momment, but it may be you have reach the limit of your CPU.I am not sure if this has been posted but this link has some very useful information: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3495431&postcount=877
I have all along still not stable for me over 3.75. Think something else in the bios is holding it back as it will post @ 4Ghz all day just not able to load Vista beyond a few secs of the loading screen before either BSODing or just hard locking up on a black screen or the loading screen. Any ideas how I eliminate or troubleshoot this??If your having problems with stability switch your ram to 1t, helped get me to 4.2 HT disabled and 4.1 HT enabled.
Also try to get your ram as close to stock settings as possible i.e. 1600mhz @ 1.65v

UD5Which board is it, UD5 or Extreme?
175I set my ram manually ,always have.Whats the highest bclk have you achieved?
There's only one bios I would even consider at the moment for the extreme, the F4J (UD5 F4R). The official F4 and other bios' are not very stable. A lot of people describe similar problems after flashing F4.
As I suspected I need to wait then as Extreme bios is not supposed to be flashed on the UD5 according to GB they are different even though technically the same. Had the same issues with F3 & F2 though so as they are now on F5 suspect GB know of the issue and are doing a trial and error approach to finding the solution!!There's only one bios I would even consider at the moment for the extreme, the F4J (UD5 F4R). If you want to be the guinea pig!!I think f4k is the similar bios for the UD5 ,which i have already tried. It did not make any difference for me anyway. Also tried f4r.
