Wii and Red Steel finally turned up at six this evening, although no sign of Wii Play as yet but no rush.

As it's going to be an xmas pressies from the Missus it's now been taken away again but I was allowed to test it out and a 60min play on it.

From the quick go I had I was really impressed, only played Wii Sports but couldn't believe how easy the controller was to use and how effective it was (not to mention how knackering Boxing can be).

I really think Nintendo are on to a winner with the Wii and now I can't wait till Christmas to get my hands on it again.

as far as I knew n64 ones work with the GC controller?

It's great fun, isn't it? I love the tennis! I had my 78 year old Nan playing the target shooting game on Wii Play. Despite her being all over the place with the pointer, she was laughing her head off. I reckon she'll be back for more soon.

The level of control in Wii Sports is ace. You assume because it's a simple looking game that it's all "whack it and hope", but you actually have to be a lot more tactile than that. Bowling, for example, is really affected by the amount of spin you apply when twisting the remote, or golf by the speed of the swing, or tennis by the timing. With all the practice modes for the games, there's a fair bit more depth than you'd think to it.

Plus it's making for ace bragging rights between me and my friends. I'm the baseball master (5 home runs :cool:

), but two of them have just managed hole-in-ones on the golf, and the girl (urgh) is still best at bowling.

The wii golf game is amazing. Was so chuffed when I got an eagle (though I got a +5 on the very next hole lol.

Bowling and Tennis I'm less impressed with. Controls seem a bit random but thats almost certainly because I'm crap

I still cannot belive how small it is, I was shocked when it was at work today. The catalouge came through and got it to my GF by 5:10, not before the tears of "It's not coming, waaaa" etc

Played on Red Steel for 10 Minutes and that was really good fun, CoD is gona be a cracker

And Wii sports has been a lot of fun, I'm sweating like a mofo now.

I think this point alone will give the Wii a huge advantage in sales, parents happy for their kids to play video games, getting them doing at least a little exercise with the Wii over the other two major consoles.

Absolutely right, mate. That's one of the big pluses, as far as my missus is concerned.

Just been speaking to someone at a supermarket about their lack of Wii consoles. He stated that "we won't be stocking them because, to be honest, it's going to be a flop". He went on to say that it's because "they always choose to use their own format" (referring to the motion sensors). They do, however, have a large display dedicated to DS Lite and games. He also stated that they'd "already been stung by The 'Cube" which has to be the least revolutionary console they've ever released. I find it amazing that despite all of Nintendo's successes over the years how people only remember the brief slip up but can't recognise how well they're doing now. Of course he could be right and it may turn out to be a flop, but it seems a strange decision by the largest chain of supermarkets in the UK to not bother with a console that has as much interest and potential as the Wii.

Go back and tell him he's a ****. They use industry standard iMEMS as used in about 99.9% of motion sensing equipment. IR is a standard as old as most people here, and Bluetooth is a standard.

Yep that sorted it! Put it on max 5 and all is well. I can now slouch on the sofa from a good distance.

Had a lot of disappointed people in work today. We thought were going to get at least 1 unit in, but nope, not even a spec. We got one sole copy of COD3 for the entire shop, thats all

Some poor woman was almost reduced to tears, as she didnt preorder and its all that her son wants for crimbo.

No no nooo. Tennis is a bit random to be fair (it's purely down to the timing of your hit as to where the balls go), but bowling is ace. It's all about twisting the remote as you roll to get the perfect spin. The speed you move the remote controls the power, and the twist controls the spin, and with that you can do loads. One of the practice levels has lanes with obstacles in, and I got well good practice trying to negotiate them.

The training section is one of the best bits overall actually.

Now I know that I don't have kids but I do work with them. Surely a kid old enough to appreciate a Wii is old enough to know you can't just click your fingers and have what you want.
