After much thought on how exactly to approach and do credit to what can only be described as a masterpiece of a generation, I realised that no man alone could accomplish such a feat. So I will simply step aside, letting you sit back to reminisce while basking in its greatness.

Due to popular demand, ladies and gentlemen, I give you Donkey kong...

Donkey Kong was created when Shigeru Miyamoto was assigned by Nintendo to convert Radar Scope, a game that had been released to test audiences with poor results, into a game that would appeal more to Americans. The result was a major breakthrough for Nintendo and for the videogame industry. Sales of the machine were brisk, with the game becoming one of the best-selling arcade machines of the early 1980s. The gameplay itself was a large improvement over other games of its time, and with the growing base of arcades to sell to, it was able to gain huge distribution.

I remember all the Donkey Kong games on the Snes, the graphics were amazing when first got that hah, still are impressive for the machine it was on. Great games, completed them many times over. Can still remember the theme tunes.

The DK games on the SNES were complete win. I remember when they came out it was like a second wind for the SNES as they looked so good. In comparison to Super Mario World (World class game) they looked so good.

Best game in the world!!!

When i got with my misses a few years ago, i took my super nes over her house and started playing Donkey Kong country.... i since bought 2 and 3.... £50 each in the box.... recon its gona be worth quite a bit years and years down the line!

Funnily enough I was thinking about Donkey Kong Country on the SNES this morning! Rareware were gods. Also I recall a CGI TV series based on Donkey Kong being on UK TV. :)

I bought a SNES about 5 months ago and got addicted to Donkey Kong. When I originally had a SNES I could only just get past the manic mines part. This time around I had great fun completing it.

I bought it on ebay with about 7 games for £40, bought 3 or 4 games for it - Donkey Kong, Super Tennis, NBA Jam and Killer instinct and a couple of official pads then sold it for £60. Lots of fun and got my money back. (I sold it because I couldnt take games crashing and needing to blow into the console every time i played something!)

It's really strange that this should turn up. Donkey Kong was the first coin-op that I put money into when I was small, so it's very special to me.

I've had MAME installed on various PCs for almost 10 years now with thousands of roms, but DK is the one I mostly come back to.

It's always bugged me though that the PSP, although loaded with arcade compilations of one sort or another, has never had DK included in any of those compilation packages.

I know, I know, not really a PC topic, but I did mention MAME. :)

Too early in the morning... i thought this was the Donkey appreciation thread at first ><

Never had it on pc but i did have it on the Gameboy, so long wasted on it :D

i remember playing it on the pc for hours on end day after day , it sucked my life away like wow does to a lot of people now days.

oh wait its a console game

Donkey Kong Country on the SNES was great :D

shame the series isn't a platformer anymore, would've been interesting to see how it played in 3D.
