That Anaconda video is incredible. I've said this before, but I'll say it again - I used to think Star Citizen was my favourite out of these 2, I'm now liking this one more and more. I'm so glad I backed both, since I almost didn't back elite after spending some money on Star Citizen.

The attention to detail is in some cases staggering - they've not just looked at how X feature would look like but also taken into account the factors that would have affected how X feature would look like, etc.

This Beta is [insert superlative here]!! Frontier have so delivered on this. It's nearly 2am and I have not noticed. Must get some sleep...

Here's some tips:

1. The fastest way to make money is to do the low intensity battle scenarios.
2. Supercruise in and select erenin as your faction.
3. Shoot down the small fighters first as you will nail these very quickly for 500 credits a piece.
4. Then go for the Eagles.
5. Then the cobras.
6. Fight to the death. Ship loss is not a problem at this stage - when you have lost your ship you should have enough for a second laser, but make sure you have an additional 1200 credits to replace the ship on insurance.
7. Don't get frustrated if you loose a kill to an NPC.
8. Watch out for ship that show up as outline shapes on your scanner (rather than solid squares or triangles)- these are players. Treat with caution.
9. Once you have the second laser you should start tearing through the bad guys. Watch the money roll in a save for a Cobra Mk3. After that its time to trade...

This game looks like it's going to be fantastic, I played elite and frontier so much and this looks like it will be on my shopping list.

its very much still a work in progress and a lot of content still to come and bug fixes.
I have to say though it does feel amazing and the sounds from the ships are just great. I actually think at this stage its actually too easy to make credits and you can have a cobra in a couple of hours just by going on a killing frenzy in the low intensity areas.
I like to go to the asteroid fields in the anarchy region near freeport station and hunt down wanted status npcs including Anacondas and make money that way once i have my second laser especially.
In this area you can often end up with a couple of cobra chasing you down through the fields of rock, great fun to be had :D

FD do need to quash some bugs that have been around since the Alpha 2 and 3 stages but im sure they will get there now they have the stress testing of Beta 1.0 out in the wilds.

Made a huge **** up yesterday

Earned a load of credits from trading, bought gimbal laser , headed to battle zone , chose federation faction by mistake, soon realised every ship on my radar was Eranin then had half the sector shooting me lol

Back to free sidewinder and a few credits

What joystick, or controls, is everyone using here ? I dug out my old TM Cougar HOTAS but I'm struggling to configure it properly ( especially with pedals ). May try my equally old MS Sidewinder FF2 instead - perhaps configuring one input device will be easier.

X55 Rhino here first game that really supports it and it feels fantastic.

Huge bug in game ATM that if you die ALT CTR DEL out of game and you wont lose your shiny new ship you will boot back in just before conflict.

Shouldn't really post this but every bugger I try and kill does this.

Bought an X52 (non pro) and made a huge difference for me over keyboard and mouse :) seems good quality and lots of button and hats etc.

X-55 rhino, so far I've spent more time fiddling with setting it up than playing the game :) so many buttons!

Struggling with this at the moment, been playing on and off with keyboard only, Xbox360 pad and also tried my old Saitek ST90 basic stick, after a couple of hours with each, none of the solutions felt right, the dual analog, d-pad and triggers of the xbox360 pad seem best so far. Im more than happy to invest in a decent controller if anyone can recommend something that is perfect for this game.

As for the game itself, I've had very few crashes, in fact the only ones I remember are after alt-tab'ing out, or accidentally changing focus onto a program on my 2nd monitor.

This game is shaping up very nicely and is a great example of crowd based funding and a company not over-hyping the product and actually delivering quality updates as they go along. Not looking at another title... cough Start Citizen...

I haven't backed it as don't believe in early access games (hardly any seem to get out of early access) but will most certainly be buying it when the full game gets released based on what I have seen so far as the devs seem to genuinely be delivering on what they have promised and haven't gone for a stupidly large, unachievable game idea, but instead are delivering on the core game and adding bits on later.

Can't wait to see the final product as it looks epic so far just from the Alpha!

In the oldern days I had a BBC Micro and a joystick and after many, many kills I made it to Elite. 30 years later and like a school kid in a sweet shop I eagerly awaited my access to the premium beta. And I'm at a complete loss :(

I can't kill that sodding sidewinder in the 3rd combat mission, I've just spent 2.5 hours trying and if each subsequent combat mission ups the ante I am going to get no where.

The multiplayer option seems to just sit there with a spinning ship, I assume this is the only way to trade and try out the docking stuff? So far extremely fed up with it all.

So addicted to this game but its hard going for me due to constant CTD:mad:

Have disabled crossfire for this game due to corrupt textures and going to try rolling back to some certified drivers on BETA 14.6 to try and get some stable gaming. Keep having to save and exit to keep money on combat missions,

Picnic make sure you have throttle in the blue zone on turns and if he sticks to your tail put all power to engine, turbo out turn in again put power to Sys and Laser and take him out.

Do you have the AMD fix on ? if so its advised to turn it off now as its redundant. If not then please ignore :D
I have had a few unstable moments, station disappearing, never coming out of super cruise (shaky shake shake) lol

I know about the keep it in the blue trick but I'm not succeeding. I'm sure I managed to kill him ok in the Alpha I had access to but in the Beta he's shot me a dozen times when he first appears in front of me while I'm still getting organised. Seems it's a lot harder. I've watched numerous youtube clips and none show the ring in mine nor do they get shot at in the first pass.

Can someone confirm how do more that just the 10 or so combat missions. Is it all via the multiplayer? If so how long does the ship spin for? I left it for 5 mins without anything happening last night.

Latest few videos have me sold, not sure if I should pay the £100 or wait till the next beta stage for the £50 one. Really like the graphical style - the ship engine bursts look very nice, as does the warp sequence.

I'm on same boat but the premium beta includes season pass thing so it's only really a bit more

Well, I Kick Startered in at Beta with all future DLCs etc. I'm happy to let everyone else have their fun at the moment, and to dive in when the proper Beta is released :)

I've noticed the NPC difficulty seems to have increased as well so I don't think you're imagining the difference in difficulty between Early Alpha and Beta release.

Other tips I would give are:

1). If at all possible invest in a decent stick, I first played with a 360 pad and then moved onto using an x52 and the difference is incredible. Remap the controls to your liking but make sure to map the manoeuvring thrusters (up, down, left & right) to something easily accesible as these are invaluable in combat.

2). Watch the gap. So, there is some space between you and the enemy and he's shooting at you, if your energy management and shields are ok then boost directly towards him so you close the gap as quickly as possible, then try and get turned in behind the enemy. If on the other hand your energy management and/or shields are not ok then full power to engines and boost directly away from the enemy to give time to recover before re-engaging.

3). Use manoeuvring thrusters. These really help you stay on the tail of an enemy as well as sometimes avoiding incoming fire, for example if you have and enemy in front of you that is pulling up to try and shake you, you pull back on your stick to follow him, you set the throttle into the 'blue' zone in order to get optimal turning speed, but importantly also use the manoeuvring thrusters, so in this scenario I would usually use the 'up' thruster to give me extra help in sticking on his tail.

4). Experiment with more advanced combat features. Have a go at running in 'silent running' mode so the enemy has a hard time locking on if they have gimbled lasers, or even finding you in the first place. Also experiment with disabling 'Flight Assist' (again I map this to a button on my stick so I can flick it off/on as required), this allows you to do things such as thrust in one direction, and then spin on an axis to face a completly different direction to the thrust of the ship and fire. So you can essentially be travelling forwards and spin over 180 degrees to shot at someone on your tail.

Yes, I'm afraid at the moment everything outside of a few combat missions is on the multiplayer side. I also get the spinning ship of doom all the time :( plus CTD's, stuck while warping into zones, lag, stutter and all sorts of other issues. I stick with it, keep trying and I find I eventually get in. Sometimes it works great for a number of hours, other times I can't get in at all, but when it works and you get a glimpse of what this game is going to offer when working it is simply brilliant :D

The only thing I do is when first launching into the game is to give the spinning ship 5 mins and if it hasnt loaded up by then I end task and relaunch the game and try again. (sometimes it won't let you end task on it so I just alt+tab to desktop and then back to the game and it crashes out anyway).
