*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Yep, I was sensible on my previous session when collecting, due to somehow blowing up on planet previously when I left it for 10 mins.

The collecting doesn't bother me, once I realised I was missing a few items in rubble piles. Once I knew where everything was I could easily gather 8 pieces with a half way unload. Upgraded ammo made light work of sentinels too.

It's the travel that kills me, as I hadn't engineered my ship, so only getting about 38-38ly per jump. 39 jumps back was a slog :p.

Also lost another large collection of discovery and Exo data. I might be cut out for bounty hunting .
If your ship has point defence turrets (on top mounts) and is parked close enough, it will happily intercept guardian missiles unless they've changed it.

but had to step away from PC. Stupidly didn't log out and came back to 'ship destroyed'
Buy a docking computer. Only fails 1 in 1,000 times, but you can leave it to it once you're in the safe zone

Yeah I had that, helpful but I found the mid grade rearm meant I could destroy the sentinels before they got any off most of the time.

First thing I did when I started playing was to sell the default one as I actually like landing. Should have known I would regret it eventually .

Operations delayed again... June now. That's over 6 months late if it releases then lol...

Also the new ship coming, Lynx Highliner, will be available for credits from the outset, yeh, I'll buy one but can't see a tourist ship being particularly sought after as an arx only purchase and suspect the inevitable comments regarding yet another ship for arx while actual content gets delayed for the third(?) time would be overwhelming even for FD lmao...

Oh I didn’t realise it’s a new thing. I thought that was just the generic name for any ground-based mission.
Though I see these ones are built for squads so that rules me out as I only play solo.

39 jumps.. crikey. I forget how different it is with engineered ships using guardian hyperspace boosters Vs normal. my ships are far from meta built but my krait phantom gets me iirc over 62ly per jump and my Diamondback explorer almost 69ly (a Mandalay or... the other long range ship I forgot the name of are on my to-do list but at the moment I am Dusting off my old ships and messing around in them.

I think the max jumps I had to do was probably 16 or 17

Being pragmatic we have Elite Dangerous a rich feature laden game and they're deciding to wait on an upgrade until it's actually ready. Good on them.
Of course, but you'd think with over ten years direct experience with producing expansions for Elite they'd have a better grasp of how long it takes :p

Edit:

I do wonder though... has this been delayed so much because of how badly received Odyssey was and they actually feel the need to get this expansion to it into a state that doesn't simply resemble the absolute bare minimum viable product... time will tell I guess. Personally I'm of the opinion they should just quit with all the on foot rubbish and get back to making elite about space ships, far too many successful games already exist for them to be pull anything more than a minimum number of new players in by attempting to appeal to the FPS crowd.

Agree with the above, but that's my play style. Never liked FPS, and Odyssey didn't change my mind on that. It's there if you want it. Happy to keep Frontier in business, so I'll pay for stuff if that helps them.

I hope that is the case. my concern (and it may be unfounded) is that it is delayed because they have a skeleton crew working on it, and on top of that I can't say I am confident it won't be a bug ridden or unbalanced mess at launch even so.

I love the game, but imo it has been handled incredibly poorly over its lifespan with lots of churn WRT developers and as such many features don't really gel together or often feeling unfinished and some updates have a completely different feeling to them than others meaning the game doesn't flow so much as rather be a collection of individual components.
and some of its updates have been laughably broken.

Yea the P2P multiplayer has always been too laggy. They should have gone with proper servers.
the game does have proper servers for a lot of the game (the BGS etc), and the P2P on the in instance stuff should be able to work (and actually does for most of the time for me at least)

plenty of multiplayer games run P2P just fine, anything up to 32 players shouldn't be an issue and it means in theory if ever they do turn off the lights it should be easier to keep it running.

But the P2P issue is you can be connected to someone in another country with a **** connection and it's laggy as hell.
