*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

I got nothing against the way you guys want to play the game - but if you want to do this then it should be in Solo only IMO. the Open mode should be balanced so that no one player has an unfair advantage.

Open mode is full of unfair advantage. The player with the FerDeLance sitting outside a starting system ganking newbs. The player with an engineered ship 'vs' the player without horizons. The player with a hotas 'vs' the player with M&K.

A teenager on summer holidays can spent 8 hours a day trading their way to 100,000,000 credits. A dad with a job hasn't got that time. Is that an unfair advantage. Should the teen only play in solo ?

The key thing to me is the sandbox nature of the game - it can be what you want to make it.

Exactly, well said hodders. I remember when i first went into open and people were taking turns on me lol.

Now i only play solo, i might do some open with you lot though

its what i like about the game, its about taking advantage of the situation, if you don't you're left behind :D

The second draconis is back at war i'll be there. Take advantage of it before they kill it.

But when one dies, another pops up. Its the nature of this type of game.

I only ever play in Solo or Mobius group now and have no interest in PVP at all. I was never one to really play in Open either and I got ganked too many times by groups of players.

Me too.
Picked a ferdelance and without horizons I'm struggling. If I go toe to toe with anything my shields are down within seconds and I'm taking big dmg. Also struggle with heat. I'll post my ship spec next time I'm near pc. (Mostly a rated)

In contrast, the only really meaningful, memorable and properly interesting moments I've ever felt in ED have been when interacting with other players :p

I don't really like the "Play it your way" type of game. I prefer to have a set of obstacles in a world with rules, and skill or system to master to overcome the obstacles, while playing by those rules. If the obstacle is "Players are grouping up and hunting other players" then that's just another obstacle that I have to overcome. I do understand that sometimes people just don't have the time to group with other people, but this is where game developers should make systems to bounce off the emergent gameplay created by player behaviour, capitalising on the opportunity rather than having the "victims" remove themselves from the simulation as they perceive it to be their only option. I see things a little differently, in the past in MMOs I've seen it as a challenge, a very satisfying one, to react and overcome players grouping up against single players in this way. This might just be the way I enjoy things, but I do think it's a more productive way of playing the game as opposed to just moving to solo and essentially then making it someone else's problem! I realise that "Play it your way" seems to be the thing nowadays, but the best games (in my experience and opinion) tend to be the ones that don't cater for everyone to play however they like. It seems obvious to me that if you can do whatever the hell you like in a game without it giving you an advantage or putting you at a disadvantage, it stops becoming a game really!

It all comes down to the fact that Frontier never really decided whether to make it single player or more MMO style. I'm heavily of the opinion that they should have ditched pseudo-single player and instead, force people to make completely separate characters, some in a fully offline instance, and some in a fully online, MMO style, persistent world.

Some of the attempted justification in here is laughable. Seriously.

"I got ganked. I don't play in Open. I don't have time. I don't have friends to play with."

It's still exploiting of game mechanics to get fast credits and none of the above makes one iota of difference.

Me also. Literally every time I play in Open, my ASP or Python gets interdicted as I am aligned to Aisling Duval. Some commander even said hello, the circled behind me in his engineered Corvette and tried to gank me, screaming 'GET REKT' in local chat in the instance. My engineered ASP flew at 450 m/s away from his fat Corvette and he never got a shot off before I low waked. Lol

Buy Horizons dude. It's like 3 pence now

Your FDL will get done against decent NPCs as they have engineer mods and use SCBs a lot more

Your rants are laughable. While I agree with the use of exploits, one could argue that it's FD's fault for messing with missions and pay outs so much. But playing in Open or Private or Solo is someone's personal choice.

Next time - I'll let you buy my game and then I'll play your way. Merry Xmas you dirt animal :D:D:D

Ok, this is my fer-de-lance.. comments on why it over heats and why the shields dont last!

https://coriolis.io/outfit/fer_de_l...3749026b2f.Iw18aQ==.Aw18aQ==?bn=pj-ferdelance

i dont have horizons so unable to do any engineer mods. Pretty disappointed if that the reason its so crap.

The station i was at didnt have any multicannons or i would have loaded up on them instead of the rockets.

Your ship is not really built for fighting - you have a single shield booster and a 4E shield generator. A 4E with on SB will go down fast, especially with no eng mods. You know the lower the letter, the better, right? Sorry to be blunt.

Go 5A sheild gen with two SBs at least. Also the FDL hull is known to be crap. Also fit at least one 4A SCB

Just MHO. I am sure others may comment

Showboat - we are friends on ED. I can come and help you. Also - if you're really struggling with those 18 kids you have - I'll buy you Horizons. In fact, I'm doing it now you meff. Start the eng grind and get a boosted 5A shield. Happy to help over Xmas

**EDIT** Ping me what vers you have on Steam. Dont want to buy a diff version. It's 20 bux. I take sexual favours for return

Thx for the offer BB. It's a principal thing! I'm not paying £20 for something that everyone flames is ****... I'll pick it up if they sell it on offer over Chrimbo or if not maybe full price once they make the changes to engineering in the current beta.

I also cocked up.. my fdl has an a rated shield generator.

Chill Fella, nothing I do in the game has an impact on you and I have over 9 weeks of playtime. If you see stacking missions etc as exploiting and don't want to do that yourself, then good stuff but chill out with those who do it.

And here I was thinking that this place was a decent gaming community....yet am being made out to be the ass because I expressed an opinion against exploiting and all the exploiters got butthurt and defensive.

Pff.

Spin it how you like but it's a MP game and it's cheating.

Whatever. As you were.

Instead of adding content they just keep messing around with numbers and balancing.

I like ED but its going on the back burner for me for a few months.

The new update coming January I don't care for so will probably play again when 2.4 drops or season 3 comes out.

Come January I will have not been back the bubble for over a year.

It is a decent gaming community and it is only you who seem to be getting upset with people who are not playing the same way as you.

When I started all the way back on release date for ED, I did all the grind etc and missions as they came along, I spent so much time ranking up and earning my creds to buy new ships and upgrades. I then see someone post a way to make fast credits by picking up "Seeking goods", travelling a short distance to a T9 and dropping them off and rinse and repeat.... If that is cheating, then I am a cheat. I made around a 100 mil doing that but still took me a long time to do. I then went and leveled up with one of the factions and got my 50 mil for my efforts and then went and sat at a HRes and kept killing wanteds after wanteds and cashing in anything from 20 to 50 mil and this also felt like exploiting. I have also used Inara/Thrudds to find decent trade routes, which of course is exploiting as well.

Basically I really enjoy the game and own many ships from Anaconda's to Cutters and have worked my way through hard play to get them and I would still do everything I have done and not feel a tiny bit guilty whatsoever.
