*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Well i would say wait until Horizons is released so before Xmas.

The thing is...i am sure there are exciting times ahead. You want to be in a good ship when the Thargoid Invasion Armada storms occupied space :D Now that could happen after Season 2 (horizons) and Season 3 (atmosphere landings) so in 3 years basically..but i dont think they will wait that long the fans will depart in droves..i reckon it will be part of the main game Elite and i dont think they will advertise it saying expect thargoid incursion on X date. I think buy it play it so you have a decent ship and some millions in the bank then shelf it until it gets the more interesting content.

There have been signs already ...they are coming. (i really hope they are big fans of Babylon 5 :D)

Where is your source that season 3 will be atmospheric landings? They have stated that Thargoids will not be announced so yeh, should be cool to see a few random encounters over however long they decide to take to introduce them :) Agreed with you on the fact that they will be part of the base game, it just wouldn't be right any other way.

As for waiting, it comes down to whether or not you decide that £30 is worth the cost of Elite as it stands (plus CQC and Ships updates) is good value for 3 or 4 months of gaming before you're in a position of needing to spend another £30 to get the Horizons expansion, bearing in mind that there is no requirement that you buy the expansion to continue playing, you just will not be able to take part in planetary landings.

I thought in my naiviety that if you buy Horizons it includes the base game and it would let you play Elite straight away and Horizons just unlocks when its released. Would be cheaper than buying just Elite now then Horizons.

Im sure it was Michael who said planetary landings would be two parts i assumed it would be after each other (so seasons 2 + 3). Havent been on Elite forums in a few days (so that means tons of posts to catchup on)

Here we go again...

Sorry, the price point stands, it is £29.99 if you already have the game, £39.99 if you pre-order without owning the current game and bear in mind you will have to wait until Horizons is released before you get access at that point so it's not at all unacceptable get a heavily discounted first release a year after release.

Multiple parts, two has never been specifically mentioned that I recall, nor has it been stated what season three will be.

Thats a strange marketing decision isnt it? You would have thought that buying Horizons because it includes the base game they would let you play the base game now instead of paying then waiting 3 or 4 months just twiddling your thumbs.....as the base game is out now.. very weird!

I think its a safe bet it will be 2 :D. A forum poster asked Michael why planetary landings was broken into 2 parts and Michael said it was always going to be in stages. He didnt backtrack or deny it. So reading between the lines seems that 2 is the likely outcome. What else do you think they will put into Planetary Landings to expand it out to 3 or 4 stages?

Logged off last night for bed, forgot the liquor mission.. But I found another and sitting on a whopping 19,000 credits! :o Sort of halfway to a new ship at least. X55 Rhino HOTAS came earlier, thing is a beast <3

No, Horizons is not released until the 'Holidays', why should you get to play Elite now if you pre-order Horizons? You want to play now, buy Elite.

They arent playing Horizons...they are playing Elite which has been out for a good while now. The base game is included in the price. Seems odd that they would lock the buyer out of that part until Horizon itself becomes available near xmas. Rather strange decision by them methinks.

Has there been other games which have done the same? Not that i'm aware of.

Well I stumped up for the expansions pack..

Its gonna take some getting used to it. I've spent the last 20 mins trying and failing to kill the 2 ships on the 2nd training mission....

No, they're not playing Elite, that's not the offer is it? It's not odd at all, it's no different to knowing the GOTY edition of Skyrim is due out in four months, you can pre order it and wait, or you can purchase Skyrim as it stands and play it now. There is nothing strange about it and plenty of games have done similar. The base game is included in the price when it is released, not before. I fail to see how you don't understand this simple concept and can only go back to my original stance that you are just trolling.

Other than learning the basics (undocking/docking/supercruise/jumping/etc) I'd not put too much store in the training missions combat wise, you'll learn more by playing, as a starter your sidewinder is replaced for free if you lose it so you can try all sorts without fear of losing funds and if worst comes to worst you can always reset the save and start from scratch :)

I don't think he is trolling.

So the situation is this then (as I now understand it)

You pre order horizons for £39.99 as a new player. You get the full package on release, ED and Horizons. Until that day, you have to wait to play anything...

If you want to play now, you buy ED for £29.99 and then pay £39.99 for horizons when it is released....

For us, we pay £29.99 now as a pre order for horizons.

OK got it....

It is a bit odd..... The difference between paying £39.99 or £69.98 for the same content is a day....

He is, this has already been explained to him.

Only if you choose to purchase elite the day before horizons is released, currently it's about four months, your choice, no one is forcing you. Also, it's £59.98 as you get a £10 discount for buying Elite and then pre-ordering Horizons.

The £10 discount is for a limited period only... (what that period is, is anybodies guess)

It really is not clear anywhere on the site what the situation is. Please do not say "what is difficult to understand" when the website is so difficult to navigate when looking to buy, given the number of packages now being offered.

Its nothing like that at all. A better example would be good if you can find one. Partly because Elite is sold online and not in the shops and is an online only game. So i dont see why they couldn't let those people play the base game now? Can you think of a reason?

You can buy the lifetime expansion pass and that essentially preorders all future expansions but you also get access to the base game .....straightaway.

That is, if you're prepared to pay £130

So yeah they could have done it and let horizons preorders access the base game now. Hrmmm...

Edit: heres the myriad of options presented in a flowchart the FD developers did on reddit on how to buy Elite :)

Oh, so buying the Lifetime Expansion Pass now doesn't need you to have Elite Dangerous already? So simmilar to have bought the Premium Beta, but without the future beta access? That makes it's £130 not so bad, as Premium Beta was £100 anyway.

I can't really fathom the way they've done it either, current Players are getting shafted and New players are getting a really good deal... I'd like to buy ED/Horizons for the £40 to get another Account for what would amount to £10 Extra, but then this would be useless as my current account wouldn't have Horizons that way. I'd even buy the Lifetime thing but the way they implemented the unwanted PowerPlay guff puts me right off that idea, they really dropped the ball there with that stuff AFAIC:(
