*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

If that makes finding bio signals and stuff easier I'll very happily get one, when it's available for in game credits of course :D

Pretty sure its going to make my Mandy redundant. I took the the CE out for a test drivee as an explo ship and it sucked at exobio. If this works as stated then who needs an explo Mandy?

Ship balance does seem to have been going out of the window since Braben stepped down. They are making clearly OP stuff to sell for money now, which was something he never wanted to do.

If they ever do ship interiors they won't make sense with how modules physically fit inside them, which was something that was considered with the original designs.

yeah... as much as I love the core of the game many of the post horizons design choices have taken the game further away from the game that was pitched to me not closer to it.

damn shame really, but I still enjoy it for what it is. it could have been so much more though.

I have yet to find anywhere I couldn't land my CE with a bit of perseverance, even the rockiest hell hole. Mind you it can make for some interesting SRV trips trying to get to what I spotted from the ship.

I like the idea of the SLV though. I imagine they will release something like a ST shuttle for multiplayer Operations at some point.

new ship launched vessel coming to Elite.

something to allow ships with a larger footprint get around landing issues in tough terrain. allowing ship launched fighters be able to land is something which has been requested for a while .. so this scratches that itch.
SLFs were always one of the coolest mechanisms in the game but they had a lot of problems as fighters. A ground landing version was so obvious and should have been introduced with Odyssey tbh. The fact that it wasn't I think shows that the people who make the development decisions probably don't play the game much.

after an initial typical and unnessesary own goal and FD only allowing the nomad to be used in the 3 new ships, after significant forum pushback they have relented and the nomad will now be usable with all ships that can use a fighter bay

albeit only the new ships can use the mark 2 bays which will be lighter and may have other advantages.

I might actually have to sort out a properly equipped and engineered Caspian now, also must be near time for the Kestrel MKII to be available for credits surely?

I reckon the kestrel could come at any time now, maybe even this week...... it would make sense to drop it separate from the operations update to try to get 2 boosts in player engagement rather than1.
I am with you on the Caspian. before I could not really justify one as I don't travel to colonia etc and it's too much of a pita to land for exploration with exobio....
but with a nomad it will become the king of the explorers , which to be fair is where it should probably be.
it does somewhat leave the Mandalay without a purpose however.
(and I think now means every single none SCO ship is now obsolete..... FD really need to come up with a reason to give those ships purpose... the obvious way being interesting missions which come with a supplied ship with set stats

oh and they also need to get NPC's flying the new ships.

Yes, They are truly messing with the ship balance badly lol... looking at the expanded list of ships that can use the Nomad is a little frustrating, seeing the Krait MKII able to use but not the Krait Phantom is just laughable. It's also annoying from a personal perspective as I really like the cockpit of the Mandalay (not keen on the ship itself) and really dislike the Caspian cockpit but if it's the better ship then I guess I'll learn to live with it.

It's also nice to see interior customisations making an appearance and the fact that the fade to black screen from the Nomad actually places you in the ship possibly hints at actual interiors for future ships though I'll not hold my breath on that!

Absolutely agree that NPC's need to be using the new ships too!!!

Look forward to playing this again in a few months. Seems there might be quite a few changes, not that I’ve even scratched the base game lol.
Made sure to backup my binds to cloud this time so won’t have to contend with that.

it's any ship with a ship launch hangar . to be fair to FD if the phantom had the hangar bay then there would not be much separating the MK2 from the phantom. lore wise it is probably the main reason why the ship has less mass than the MK2 (they were both made back when FD tried to consider ship balance)

I have never tried it in all honesty but if you like the look of the krait maybe you could strip down a MK2 , put in a guardian range extender thingie and get a nomad in that for exploration.
it won't have quite the range of the phantom but may be ok.
