*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

SD slot would be very nice, but as a portable device (which the iPad definitely isn't, for me) this is very easy to justify. I think we can now see why Microsoft went early with Surface, even though they didn't have anything people could use.

iPad sales are unlikely to be affected by either, but MS's bottom end Surface is now in trouble IMO, and the Fire is DOA for the rest of the world. Assuming, of course, the 7 is as good as it ought to be. Asus may be pushed hard to maintain Apple style Q&A, and there isn't the margin (any margin?) to give Apple style customer service.

Interesting times.

PS I like the form factor. I'd prefer 4:3 because it's just so much more comfortable in portrait mode (where I prefer to browse and read content) and I only watch TV/movies on my TV. But 1280x800 is much better than the typical non-Apple displays out there.

PPS Of course it never makes sense to buy the first generation of anything, but I'm still tempted.

^ Yup, I'm getting one for media consumption in the house. It was this, iPad 2, Surface RT or the Kindle.
MS messed up the Surface RT, Amazon hasn't released the Kindle here yet and the iPad is still a bit too expensive.

Game on.

What version have people gone for ? I've ordered 16GB

8GB.

Streaming at home + USB OTG will do me.

Trying to convince myself at the minute that I really don't need one!!! :p :o

Your phone is faster, better and sexier ;) (does that help?)

If you look on the play store for adobe flash it says that flash will not be supported past 4.0
Instant cancel if jb doesn't have flash

I think that I need to play with a few 7" tablets to see if the screen size upgrade make it more useful than my gnex.

Yup a wee bit :p :D

I think I might just get one due to how stupid the pricing is for decent hardware and for stock android plus it will be great for viewing youtube videos, films, tv catchup, browsing etc. at night when in bed and other little things.

Really don't need a tablet though as the 1S does it all perfectly well, except on a smaller worse screen :p

I may hold on for a while though and see some reviews first and also see how things go regarding apps being optimized for tablets etc.

Do you think they are likely to stay at this sort of price for the next few months or will they go up a bit?

I'm the opposite ,ive had two 10" now and I think I prefer a 7" for portability.10" is fine for chucking in a bag but not great for carrying It around in your hand imo

anyone here with new iPad getting Nexus ??
want to get one myself but not sure if I wont miss screen from it...

No tbh.

I'm an android fan through and through and had I not got an ipad a few months ago I would have considered this, as it is it would be a pretty big step down for what I use it for. It looks like a great device though.

For those who say they're going to use the ipad and the nexus...for what?

Planning to use Nexus on the move/ipad at home? Or different functions completely?

The screen shouldnt be a huge leap back, 720p at 7" is nice, its rather sharp (Not as sharp as the iPad but i think its a little overkill) and it has a IPS screen so should have similar colours and viewing angles.

I don't know really! :p

It's the size too though, I'm not too worried about portability and 10" is nice.
