**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

My understanding of the updates is that the device will receive updates for ~2 years from when the phone was launched (so the Nexus 6P wasn't guaranteed to get Oreo) but the OS updates aren't what they used to be, at least not in terms of adding functionality.

you're getting your numbers mixed up. this is the 2nd OS update, so the 6P was guaranteed (assuming 2 year OS updates is guaranteed) to get Oreo which it has. Has Nexus 6 got Oreo as that's now onto it's 3rd year?

If OS don't change that much that the nexus 6 can run Oreo well i'd be disappointed in android tbh.

I don't think 2 years of updates from release date is in any way sensible. What if the pixel 1 is still sold for another 6 months or so as a cheaper alternative. It'd be unfair that google has to keep supporting this device for a further 2 years with OS updates.

I'm pretty sure security updates do run for more than 2 years though. Mabye that's what he meant?

Full OS upgrades are 2 years, Security for 3.

Ready for delivery from store to your refrigerator using your smart home that includes your smart door lock and probably home security camera?

Coming to your mobile phone soon? Video shows how it works.

Walmart US has teamed with August smart lock/security camera for a small test in Silicon Valley. Recently Walmart and Google partnered using your Google Home to select your shopping. Google's Nest has announced a smart doorbell and enhanced security cameras coming soon.

The delivery you permit may be more than just standard food and staples. Meal kits could soon follow. And Deliveroo just raised fresh capital and is now valued at more than £ 1.5 billion.

So many changes coming.

Don't Apple cut features for older devices? Not sure if that is still the same?
That they do citing 'hardware limitations' and whilst the 5S gets the latest IOS - it has reduced performance noticeably on the device as expected.
I'm actually more than happy with my 6P's updates from Google. Monthly security updates were solid, and I went through 3 OS's before downgrading to Nougat as Oreo just wasn't working for me.

Given the current choices out there, I may go for an S8 or the V30 now. Google seem out of touch on the pricing end of things even though I truly love their camera implementation on their phones - it is absolutely fantastic.

seen a new article today rumouring the pixel XL to be around £630 starting, hope its true but cant see it.. think the $ conversion might be better this time round.

a lot of these articles are converting what they think the us price will be when be more like a straight pound for a dollar (like what apple is doing). I hope it does come in at £630 but seriously doubt it.

That and we're in the Pixel 2 thread....

I'd be very surprised if the XL starts at £630. Happy, but surprised. I'm just glad it will be 64gb and 128gb. It means I can at least go with the smaller storage option this year.
