**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

I've gone for the 3XL lol. But yeah for me it's because the camera is on a different level.

6T was my backup choice in case the P3 camera was just a minor improvement, or the screen was bad etc.
I'm in two minds about the camera. As a hobbyist photographer obviously there's part of me that really appreciates a stonking camera on my phone which I have on me 24/7. On the other hand I haven't actually taken that many shots with my 2XL this last year. If I know I'm venturing out anywhere I'll generally bring my DSLR with me anyway.
So although the camera on the Pixel is great, I wonder if I'd miss it if I went 6T. I don't do selfies so the front facing cameras on the 3/3XL carry no weight for me for all I would get out of them.

I suppose most people are going to claim they never get any lag... But I'm wondering if anyone has and whether a factory reset fixed it? Mine is definitely getting noticeably worse now.

I honestly have not seen any lag so to speak. But my device is a newer replacement and I did do a fresh install when I got it rather than copying data over. Not sure if that would make a difference or not but worth mentioning.

When people say they get lag, where and when are they saying it happens?

I get it with Android P a fair bit on the stock launcher. Stuttering with most app animations (opening, closing, switching etc)

Not as bad as the S8, but definitely not as fluid as it used to be.

Edit: it's been much better since the October patch :) I'd say 95% back

Edit 2: I don't have any apps that hog resources really. The only social media apps I have are Instagram, Messenger Lite, LinkedIn and Twitter. The rest is stuff like banking apps and stock apps :)

I've not tried nova on this phone as I preferred to stay stock. It quite often is after waking the phone up. This morning I got to work, unlocked my phone to check a few things and it was just a total lag fest until I eventually rebooted it.

The security updates have done nothing to resolve.

I didn't think I would have to resort to this on a pixel, especially as I'm not really a big app user at all

I find the supposedly gorgeous animations well overrated personally, half of the time they look worse due to dropped frames. If you're going to have fancy animations at least ensure they're all smooth! My iPad pro 10.5 is so much smoother than my pixel 2 XL unfortunately.

mine has been lagging all over the place.. shortcuts like camera with double press of power launches the camera but it stays black.. press again and it comes to life.

all in I think I have had more issues with my pixel device than with my previous samsung s7 lol.

I'd have to agree there coming from an s7 also. That definitely had less issues overall than this phone.

It's managed to do what no other phone I've ever had has done: simultaneously be one of my favourite and yet at the same time most frustrating phones I've had. I think the fact it is so slick when it works makes the other bits so much more noticeable!

My Pixel 2 also lags quite often after unlocking it, but I have to say that it is a complete pain in the ass when I connect it to my car to use Android Auto. It can take a up to a minute to finally load AA and if you try to use the phone at the same time it is completely unresponsive. It's got to a point where feel that it might be worth factory resetting it to see if it helps.

I love stock Android a lot but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth trying Samsung again even though I swore I never would ever after having an S7 Edge. I'm even tempted to go back to iOS but AA is so much better than CarPlay, and I love being able to copy whatever video files I want to my Pixel and watch them without transcoding to some irrelevant proprietary format.

Good god, I could have wrote almost every word of that! :D
