**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Hoping this will be below £800 anymore it's getting silly, if it does end up below £800 64gb is all I need then I'll have a bite judging by rumoured images, specs. I'm getting tired of my S7 edge and it is starting to freeze/lag more after my years ownership.

In the same boat as you, though I'm waiting for the official launch of Pixel 2 XL before deciding which upgrade route to take (LG V30 & S8+ are the alternatives).

me too I've already discounted s8+ as I can't really see much improvement over s7 edge. V30 is a decent alternative though I'm not sure I like the UI software. I haven't ruled out switching to an Iphone X as I suspect resale will counter the higher price tag.

Funnily enough I'm in exactly the same position.

To be honest, I don't think the pure Android experience has always been the best. In my opinion it was Ice Cream Sandwich where it finally approached the point where I didn't feel the need to root or to look for custom ROMs. Now, certainly, Android has taken on plenty of the features of these custom ROMs to the point it really is a great experience.
I agree with that. I think Android needed a skin on in earlier versions but now there is just no need. Stock is great. All OEMs need to do is add their own custom features to stock.

My family and I have used and some still do use Samsung's for years, then I moved to a Nexus 6 and now OP5, and have since got accustomed to a clean rom. I was setting up my sisters Note 8 the other day and was overwhelmed by the bloat and unnecessary addons in the software that it made me appreciate my current OP5 even more.

I was thinking about an S9 for my next handset but not if the software is still anything like it is now.

I was wondering whether stock android phones still felt faster than say a samsung, and it would appear they still do looking at these comments. I've got an S7 Edge at the moment. There's nothing much wrong with it if I'm honest, I did have some lag but that was down to the SD card I found out, problem has gone since I formatted. I remember my old Nexus phones in the past being very fast compared with most of the competition (or at least, they felt it). I did fancy a Note 8 but ultimately if I'm going to spend a lot of money on I'd like a change and another Samsung is just more of the same. So I will await the Pixel 2 XL, only thing is, it would appear as though its not going to have dual cameras which would be off putting if so.

Seems more info about the Pixel 2's coming through Google app 7.12 beta.

According to Android Police, decompiling this app reveals lines of code that hint at future features. These include:

"Active Edge" squeeze gesture. Squeezing the edge should enable certain actions. We have discussed this possible option before.

A more advanced version of Shortcuts called Routines, allowing you to set your own phrases to initiate multiple actions as opposed to a single action allowed with Shortcuts.

More voices for Assistant (eg male or female, etc).

New Hotwords for Assistant (beyond "OK Google" or "Hey Google").

"Sleep sounds" that shut off automatically when you fall asleep.

"Continue last played podcast" command may be enabled on Google Assistant and Google Home.

Alright fine, no more playing around. Here is the Pixel 2 XL (official name) in two colorways. We also have pricing that you’ll need to brace yourself for.

The LG-made Pixel 2 XL will come in a “Black & White” colorway (pictured above) that might be the hottest panda colorway we’ve ever seen. The phone will also arrive in “Just Black,” and be available with 64GB or 128GB storage. The 64GB model will cost $849, while the 128GB model will jump to $949.

Google will offer financing as well. The 64GB Pixel 2 XL will cost $35.38/mo over 24 months and the 128GB version will jump to $39.54/mo.

While details on this are even more scarce than the Google Home Mini and new Daydream View we just showed you, this should make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, knowing that this is about to be unveiled on October 4.

Once available, you should be able to buy the Pixel 2 at the Google Store right here.

I like the black and white. By the way, the rumoured cost in US is $849. By comparison in the US, the iPhone X is priced at $ 999 while the iPhone 8 plus is $ 799.
The best option for Google is to undercut the 8 Plus.

One of the David Ruddock of Android Police says Google had thought the iPhone 8 Plus would be more expensive

"there is apparently not inconsiderable discussion about this inside Google. They expected the 8+ to be more expensive"

"wouldn't be surprised if they cut the P2XL to $799 in response. But we'll have to wait and see."

LG V30 looks to be the ideal phone for me now. Although strangely i like the iPhone X. Google giving no reason whatsoever to stay with their phones.
