***The Official Guitar Thread***

Let it begin...

I ground some B&Q wire cutters to be really sharp and close edges. Worked really well. Tomorrow I'll cut down the fret slots deeper, and down that section and prep for reinstalling the frets, I'll also crack on with the wood reshaping too.

Yep. If you gave Jeff Beck an orange box with some elastic bands nailed to it, he'd have made it sing.

Having said that, I'm considering a new classical with a cutaway, as my upper neck (above octave) technique is rubbish.

Don’t tell the snobs, you’ll be hung drawn and quartered for such blasphemy as a cutaway on a classical guitar!

I tried playing El Choclo (you'll know the tune, if not the name) from memory last night, but found it was bonkers level impossible.

Gave up and got out the sheet music and found that, somehow, my brain had transposed it to a different key. How the hell does that happen?

that's a tidy plane :D take it you soldered all the electrics on that guitar? I bought myself the Zakk Wylde 81/85 EMG set with the solderless kit...still took me ~3 hours to get it all wired in, bit underwhelmed tbh, thought it would set the guitar on fire

Soldering electronics isn’t that difficult, just need an appropriate soldering iron and to let it heat both surfaces and apply solder then.

yeah the 81/85 zakk wyles emg's came as a kit with all the solderless connections/pots/jack etc...gonna put the old electrics back in I think just not what I eas expecting...gonna have to read up on guitar wiring first tho cos I snipped the old wires right at the end to keep them long as possible...so now can't tell what wires went where!

Let us know if you get stuck, relatively easy to work out what's what!

Have you adjusted the EMG height though, and made sure it's all working as expected? I was always surprised how clean they seem to be - big output but very flat and even response.

So I have some 9-54 gauge strings on, this was before some adjustments and intonation - it shows that the top frets are clean but I have a little buzz on open string - so there's a little more adjustment needed.

I've kinda made peace with the EMG's now...I', really not a tone chaser but this Zakk/BLS preset on Amplitube 5 brought out what I was thinking active EMG's were all about
(no more tears AGAIN :p)
