Hang on, I thought, like me, you're waiting for that "holy grail" of this generation's cards? The single slot, cool running, quiet, yet quick, maybe soft-moddable and cheap?

The GTS certainly ticks more boxes in that list than the 2900XT.

Come on GTS price-drop!

If the 640Mb drops about £30-40 I'll be in heaven.

They have got no reason to do that.

HD2900XT is apparently worse than a GTS 640mb and is more expensive.

Don't forget that the gts is a very overclockable card and very easy to overclock too! It's the only graphics card that I've ever owned where I've seen an actual difference in gameplay after overclocking, outside of benchmarks and whatnot.

Oh believe me, I am. I just don't think it's going to happen.

The 2900XL or 2600XT might fit the bill but my current card is faster. I only buy high-end these days so I think it's going to take a die shrink for me to get the kind of graphics card that I actually want. :(

So would you consider a downgrade if the trade-off was worth it?

Nope. My current plan is just to see what Nvidia and ATI cook up around the end of summer, since I forsee they will launch 65nm GPUs with insane performance.

how silly am I? I waited all that time for a card that I knew wouldnt compete with the 8800gtx hoping against all hope that it would be priced sensibly at around £200 only for it to come in at a joke price of nearly £300 inc del. B*ll*x to that AMD ATI I think I will spend my money towards some new camera equipment instead. Sorry but just giving my opinion.

I doubt we will see a price drop, a GTS is already a steal if you look at the HD2900XT prices so there is no need for Nvidia to lower prices.

Why don't you just get an 8800?

It looks like the 2900xt really struggles when it comes to doing AA and AF. Look at the benchmarks here without AA/AF for Call of Duty, Lost Coast and Oblivion.

Look at the Call of Duty benchmarks the 2900xt beats the 8800gtx at all resolutions and even beats the 8800 Ultra at 1680x1050, however when they turn on AA and AF it all goes horribly wrong for the 2900xt.
