***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Installed CM9 on my 32gb Touchpad and it's amazing. Basically everything works apart from HW accelerated video which will be fixed soon.

Bargin of a tablet for £100 32gb version

HW accelerated will never be fixed unless they get support from HP or an Uber Software specialist who can do it all himself.

i think it's a kernel issue which essentially only HP could help with.

also everybody already should know by now of course getting a £400+ tablet for £100 is a bargain, that's why they called it a "firesale".

If there had been no fire sale, i really dont think the tablet would have stayed at it's original price. Or, if it had it wouldn't have sold well. At the original prices, the TP's build issues and webos's lack of support would have Killed it, imo. I do believe it's only the popularity of the device after the firesales that drove support for it. Without that I'm left wondering if we would have had android at all, for example. That's another discussion however, but one thing i do know is that the touchpad isnt worth £400 next to an ipad2, for example.

not next to an ipad 2 yes but the parts alone were worth over £200, then take into account all the man power to put those parts together then add in all the development costs for the OS, etc.

then yeah people were getting them for £100 at possibly a £200 loss to HP on each one.

anyone who thinks it is a £100 tablet is quite frankly ignorant. it is not a £100 tablet and never was. if i managed to buy a brand new ferrari for £1, could i then say, it is the best ever £1 car ever made? no i couldn't.

Considering WebOS is now an open source project never is a very brave word to use....

At a £1 cost to you, yes I think you could say that :D

Nobody CARES what it cost HP, it cost us £100 or less which makes it a bloody good piece of hardware for the purchase price.

Where have the developers said that?

damn just checked and i'm getting mixed up with the Monte Carlo which i have also put CM7 on recently, the Monte Carlo will never ever be fully working under CM9 because of a kernel issue.

the touchpad should hopefully get support eventually.

my bad, got confused with my other devices.

edit: below is the changelog of the MC CM9 ROM

Working:
Hardware acceleration (hacked but working well)
Smooth UI

regardless of what it cost us, it was never ever meant to be sold for £100.

it is not a £100 tablet.

the Monte Carlo on the other hand you can say is a £100 phone and an absolute bargain, similar cannot be said about a touchpad, as it was designed to be a £300+ tablet. RRP of £400 and £500, whereas the RRP of the Monte Carlo is £130-£150.

it's the best tablet you could ever get for that kind of money (£100) but what happens in 2 years time when people want/need more power, they are essentially going to have to pay £400 for a brand new tablet.

whereas with the Monte Carlo if they need more power all they need to do is spend £100 for the MC2 or whatever the next orange budget smartphone is.

the touchpad was never ever marketed as a £100 tablet, it was just sold at a huge loss to get rid of stock in a firesale because they had abandoned it.

i have one and it's great, but im under no illusion that it is a £100 tablet, the whole reason why i bought it is because it is not a £100 tablet, but the fact it only cost me £100 is the reason why i bought it.

Cost != worth and that only strengthens the point I was makiing, but besides that the cost of the parts used in the ipad2 is broadly similar, yet we all know it's built better, it's lighter, better app support, a better screen and it has a vastly superior gpu. I stand by it, the TP wouldnt have survived.

Yeah, i never said that though :p

Way to miss the point, entirely!

Nobody has stated it was a £100 tablet. What people are saying is that for £100 (What we paid), it's one hell of a deal! Which is entirely correct, as we paid £100 for it.

if that is the point then it is a pointless one to make, i think even a 12 year old could figure out that getting a tablet with RRP of £500 for £100 brand new is a bargain

You were the one complaining about it...

What you just described, is exactly what we were saying, that you decided to point out how wrong we were.

I'm glad you agree with us now though.

I agree, even though my iPad 1 is outdated and lower spec than my touchpad I use the iPad far more, simply because the software of the iPad is so much better.

Saying that I still use touchpad from time to time, I'm holding off until android gets hardware graphics acceleration before I install it.

Why is it they still haven't fixed the audio bug yet? Can it really be that hard?

EDIT - Another moan from me. Why can't the music player remember shuffle!?
