***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Is there any reason not to choose USA when you set up your account to start with and leave your profile as in the US?

I've just been looking at the Kindle thread and it occurs to me there's likely to be more support going forward based on the US version of the App store? Any downsides? I can't imagine there being many UK specific Apps...

not sure but using Impostah I have managed to get kindle working fine anyway, so it's all good :)

WebOS would have been a top runner if they had stuck with it and got rid os a few of the rough edges and got more apps, the multitasking is very good. But i can't wait for Android TBH purely for the apps i miss.

I'm really enjoying the tablet now. Glad I've got avi playback, and can stream from my computer. I don't have a laptop, so this is great for when I want to be lazy in bed. If I had a laptop I think I'd struggle to see much of a use for the tablet though.

Can you post a guide?

touchpad Wifi doesn't have GPS. - only 3G models were going to get GPS
Ah, I see - I opened the Maps thing, and it displayed exactly where I was at home. Obviously it's just knows my address from registering or something!
Silly me!

It connects to my Bluetooth GPS unti, but can't do anything with it.

Hopefully Android on it will prove more useful in the Sat Nav stakes.

Late night troll from the Honeycomb or is that iPad user. ;)

There is nothing wrong with Honeycomb and it's working very well. It is what a table OS should be. WebOS on the other hand is slow, unfriendly and clearly quite a few software releases behind from almost being a polished tablet OS. Which at the end of the day is why the brick is only worth buying at the knockdown price.

What? I meant until Honeycomb is working properly on the Touchpad. A normal version of 2.2/2.3 isn't going to be nicer than WebOS for me at least.

In fact, until tablet Android is better overall I don't want it. This is why I've got an iPad 2 despite me liking the 10.1 and Transformer.

The current tablet market is controlled by apps, and only one platform is the winner when it comes to that (iOS). Apps aside, iOS just seems to work better (and most people see it that way too).

Now look at who is putting out troll bait with it being slicker. ;)

Android 3.1 on Galaxy Tab 10.1 doesn’t stutter or lag on its home screen. You must be using a different tablet.

Now where were we? Ah yes, trying to make the webOS better with Preware. :p:D

The same way some people try to make Android better with rooting? None of these Preware tweaks are a 'must' by any means.

I've tried showing people Android devices and tablets and they just think it's far too over the top when it comes to all the things you can do it on it, this is why Apple stuff sells so well and won't ever be overtaken on a big scale by Android in it's current form.

As amiga has already said, intuitiveness is everything. While Android isn't difficult to use or anything like that, it isn't exactly a walk in the park for someone that is clueless with technology, either.

tbh robbo you do seem to have one view on this situation which i feel is poisoning your mind and views on what others actually think. you come across as though you'll take the views of 10 people you know over 1000 people on here for instance.

if you had an open mind on this you'd see that when 1.5 android was out and everyone was routing they were saying how 1.5 was bad but rooting made it great, brilliant etc, then 2.1 was standard and now 2.1 was bad until they rooted which made it great brilliant, but then 2.3 is out which is bad until rooted etc.

Poisoning my mind? Steady on now :p

What everyone on here says isn't really that relevant in the real world as it's a technology enthusiasts forum! They're going to find things like Android easy to operate and they far too often assume that everyone else would, too. It isn't the case.

I disagree that rooting is important, it isn't. You don't NEED to root the HTC Sensation, you don't NEED to root the Galaxy S II. The gains aren't earth shattering by any means.

How are you streaming from your pc and does your method require the pc to be transcoding on the fly?

I'm using Kalemsoft Media Player (Beta) on my tablet (found here - http://kalemsoft.com/betas/) and their server on my computer.
I'm not really sure how it works, all I know that it does work and is very quick. Once you select the avi on the tablet it opens up almost immediately.
It's worth trying. You need to install the beta through WebOS on your computer.

This things going to get me sacked, after using all my data allowance on streaming the inbetweeners from 4OD I'm now watching Apocalypse Now and it's not a short film :p

How do you close windows? I set up my mail and it opened an app store window but I can't see a way to close it, also I started writing a mail I don't want to send and I can't seem to close that window either.

Missing the Android back button!

Swipe up from the bottom of the bezel onto the screen (when in the window), then swipe the window itself (when minimised) to the top of the screen as if you're 'throwing it away'.

How are you watching 4od? When I try via the website I just get a black box now. Flash seems to work fine on iplayer etc. Did you do the tweaks in the link on the first page? 4od used to work when I was on stock 3.0.0 but when you went full screen the navigation bar used to obscure some of the middle of the screen.

Did you install the Adblock patch?

I did the maxblocker one yes, removed but still getting a black screen when I press play on the video. Maybe I'll try a cold boot.

EDIT: or I cold just read the instructions on that page properly. ;) Will clear the cache etc as well.
EDIT2: that fixed it, thanks :)
