*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Could just be a problem with the app maybe? Kaloer seems to be very popular here and looks great on AMOLED screens :)

I just use the stock sense app for alarms though.

Could be. There used to be an option within settings of Gentle Alarm to turn off button lights though not seen it for some time. I tried another alarm with 'night display' and had the same problem. Sorted now though.

Have seen a tweak on XDA to get rid of the 3 button menu on the button and the menu is brought up when you hold the multitasking button or just replaces multitasking button completely and therefore you have to hold the home button down for the multitasking window or something similar.

Seems to be implemented in most of the ROMs as well.

I thought I'd seen a tweak there too but seem unable to find it. I think root was required as I remember and reassigning of button functions too.

Entirely up to you, main things, which will/should improve is battery life, speed and smoothness (not that the S is slow to begin with on stock anyway :p), more free RAM, more additional tweaks like switches for wifi etc. in the notification bar, screen auto brightness adjustments, stock ICS theme etc.

Can't comment on which ROM is the best as I haven't read about any of them into detail apart from a quick glance at the changes etc.

Although stick to the sense V4 based ROMs otherwise you will loose the great sense V4 features/apps, which can't be replicated to the same standard on any other phone brand or via 3rd party apps, such as the camera, gallery, phone dialer, lock screen etc. (IMO)

Yes agree with the above. Don't want to lose Sense 4. The Trickdroid ROM is based on the HTC Europe edition.

I used 'Superboot' here to get root...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577831

which worked OK though had to be run twice for some reason before I got root. I've flashed a recovery but although the option is there in the fastboot menu will not boot into recovery as yet. I've had a read up and going to try another recovery later so we'll see how it goes.

I personally won't for any of the uses. It will still be quite a while till it becomes an everyday thing for paying for items etc. via that method and by that time, we all will have the latest mobiles anyway :p If the iphone 5 has it (most likely will) and apple market the feature extremely well like they do for all their products/features then things could take off a bit quicker

Sending files to a mobile by touching them together, carrying certain tasks out by placing on a tag also means very little to me as well, especially as you can carry those tasks out by other methods, which are just as quick and in some cases quicker and better anyway.

It would have been nice to have had it anyway especially as all the phones that are being released nowadays have it.

I'm not convinced about the NFC pay by phone job. There is far too much fraud now with chip and pin and really can't see how it'll get better once phones are added into the mix?

Nillkin have got back to me and asked for my address in order to send out this case to review for them! :D

Hopefully I will receive it and have the review posted by the end of this week :)

I checked everywhere! And the only place that you can buy the case for the S (within the UK) is on the very popular auction site for £10.

Just search on that auction site for "nillkin HTC one S" and it should be the first result. If you can't find it, let me know here and I will send you a direct link to it via trust :)

Why is it not possible to set a wallpaper without going through the stupid crop setting? If i have a picture that is the right size to fill the screen why can i not just set it straight to wallpaper as is.. Do you really need all wallpapers to be 3-5 screens wide?

Awesome One S vs Razr(A) vs SGS2(B) thermal test. The Exynos 4210 gets toasty, luckily they didn't compare it to Tegra 3 :D

That's a great feature on the 4210 - lets you know when there's a right sh***y coded app a** munching your battery. :p

Good show from the 28nm S4.

Not a bad one. Dropped like a stone near the end so it turned itself off before i remembered to take the pictures.

Activity: ~15mins of video, few texts, email sync every 2 hours, loads of browsing, some e-reading, around 30 mins of music, skype in use for ~1 hour, quite a few games of gyro, some GTA, almost an hour of messing around comparing stuff between this and my brothers phone so opening as many apps as possible etc

e: around 33% brightness

Very nice! :)

What was your usage and screen brightness set to?

EDIT:

Seen your edit now! :p

Very impressive battery life.

For my next charge I will switch back to manual control of screen brightness and see how that turns out again.

Extremely lazy morning!!!! :p

That is very nice battery life there once again. What sort of % do you reckon that the screen brightness would have been set to, about half way, quite low, very high.

Did you have a black background with white text or vice versa for ereader?

Haven't used my mobile too much today yet, just a few texts, quick glimpse at play market, 15 minutes of browsing etc. however, I restarted my mobile last night just before I put it on the charger and for some reason there is virtually no battery drain when idle today

Usually I have a fair bit more of a slope when the device is idle......

Only things that I have changed is;

- enabled "force GPU rendering" in developer options
- Changed lock screen to just the plain wallpaper default (black wallpaper) instead of the weather lockscreen
- set sense weather to refresh every 6 hours instead of 3

Screen brightness is currently set to 30% I think, maybe a bit too dull for me, so may up it to 40% for indoor use.
