***The Official HTC One Thread***

How long did you have it before it went faulty? I've had mine over a month now, but its dead as a doornail to needs to be replaced. I'm in two minds whether to go straight through HTC or not.

got it on the 25th April and went faulty on the 16th may.

It didn't die but there was a hiss from the top speaker so it had obviously blown.

If it were to happen again Id be looking for my money back and choose another phone even though this one is awesome

Couldn't resist any longer...picked One up this afternoon...Black of course :p

So...while it seems a shame to do so what's the best case/cover people have found for this so far?

I'm absolutely loving my One, but at the same time I'm not totally happy with the camera. The quality of the pictures and the focus especially can be terrible at times, even after upgrading to the latest firmware and manually focuses! :( Does it sound like that I may have a faulty camera unit on mine that would require the phone itself to be sent back to HTC for inspection / repair of the camera?

Thanks - Liam

Just been playing around with the camera outside. First time i have been able to really test it, all on default camera settings on the latest firmware:

Your quick edit made my post irrelevant... nice pictures! :)

If I had taken those, then I would be more than happy with them.

How close are you to the object when trying to focus? What are the lighting conditions like?

Also, remember when the camera focuses, wait for a bit as the OIS needs to compensate/catch up and therefore you shouldn't have any blur especially on the right side and supposedly the photos are much sharper.

Ha, thanks. Not quite paradise, Surrey. :p. I just live on a development that has a nice bit of private wood/park land.

A nice part of the world... until they built the M25 through through it!

Hopefully you are further south than that though?

I lived there myself for the first 35 years or so of my life, ending up in the Epsom area. However we are now a bit further away from London now, in rural Herefordshire, and loving every minute of it. :)

Your pictures make me want to go out into the countryside, to see what I can find... after I have got an HTC One, of course! ;)

To me it doesn't really matter how close I am to an object, most of the photos looked blurred on both sides, with it being slightly worse on the right side. Like the other day and today I took some test photos outside in this sunny weather, great natural daylight and still it appears blurry on both sides. I've tried with altering the ISO & auto enhancing the photos on the phone but it still remains the same.

Coincidentally I also had the same issue when I first got the HTC Desire HD when it was released 3 years ago and I ended up sending it back to HTC, to which they replaced the entire camera unit on the phone.

I think I may give HTC UK a ring tomorrow and discuss this issue with them.

Edit - Jono8's photos really do look amazing, when you compare them to the photos taken on my One you wouldn't think that they were taken on the same phone model!

By the sounds of it, I would get it replaced.

The blur is due to the OIS (it compensates for any movement) and iirc someone on xda said a lot of his photos were blurry and then got it replaced and it is much better/no blur now.

Reason I asked about how close you are to objects is because most phones can't focus at all once you get to a certain distance from the object i.e. about 5-10cm

Try to get it "exchanged" from where you bought it first though rather than dealing with HTC.

I purchased mine outright directly from the Phones4U website, so as you say I may give them a ring instead and see if they can exchange the phone.

Thanks - Liam

If it is faulty, they should let you just walk into a Phones 4U store and swap it for a new one. You just need a reference number from customer services. They were very good when i was going through S4's like no tomorrow trying to find one without a pink tint and a uniform screen.

Been messing about with mines for a few hours now and just blown away by a few of the aspects of the device.

First off the screen looks extremely good at all angles and is much brighter and clearer than my Lumia 920.

Secondly the speakers...what else can you say about them, outstanding quality for a mobile device and clearly the top ones out there.

The Device in general is so nice to hold, not too light and of course with the uni-body feels premium and solid.

So yeah...I'm going to ruin the look of the device with some sort of case...I've order a barely there and a Speck clear case and will decide what one to use. I am tempted to go pretty much as is with the phone but I have a feeling it will mark really easily.

Having to get used to the way android works again...feels strange compared to Windows Phone's simplicity but the more time I spend with it the more I'll grow into it again.

Haven't really tested out the camera but seems decent enough and doesn't seem to suffer from any of the blurring issues people seem to have (on latest firmware of course) and the build of mines seems perfect.

God it's just a stunning phone in Black :D

Yeah got mine yesterday in black, very nice indeed :) I've just got a slip in case for now as I did with my iPhone. Can't stand covering my phones with a case while I'm using it, Just need protection for when it is in my pocket.

Does anyone use GoSMS pro? and can you set it to the default messaging app?

I did use it on my old Android phone, it should work in the same way on the HTC One. Yes, it will be the default messaging app as soon as you install it. Personally with GoSMS though I had to run it in the lightest mode since the normal mode felt bloated.

I don't know about the dark room thing though. By saying the light coming on when you tap to focus, do you mean the flash?

Yes, but flash sounds more like a quick... well... flash. I'm saying it comes on for a few seconds to help focus. Or it should. Mine doesn't.

I'm absolutely loving my One, but at the same time I'm not totally happy with the camera. Can you try what I say above? If you're in a totally dark room and you tap to focus, does the flash/light come on?

You just need a reference number from customer services.

How do you get this though? A call to HTC UK?

Still undecided between this and s4...

If it helps anyone, my thoughts on the S4 and HTC One having used each for a week or so.

HTC One doesn't have the focus assist light feature does it ? I've been through 4 of em so far and none of them have it.

'My other issue is that HTC continues to not light the LED for AF assist during focus, meaning that there were a bunch of out of focus shots before I finally obtained an in-focus shot out of luck. AF assist LED should be an option in the camera menu, though admittedly on the HTC One as we’ll show in a moment you really don’t need the flash unless you’re shooting in absolute complete darkness.
