***The Official HTC One Thread***

Apologies if this has already been asked but: Does anyone know how to export the photos/Zoe's/Videos etc. in the form of events?

To fully explain, the Gallery app automatically groups said media into 'events' based on data/location/user defined - this is how it draws together the cool highlight videos.

I've recently been on holiday and have ordered all the days into events and want to know how to get them off the phone onto my PC while keeping the 'event' structure (and if possible also keeping the Zoe's as little videos and each event's highlight vid).

Is this possible and if so how?

I'll be amazed and saddened if HTC didn't think people would be keen on doing this easily and haven't implemented a solution at all! The way the gallery app organises itself is killer so to not be able to 'back-it-up' would be a massive bummer.

They charged me a fiver for delivery and quoted 15-22 days delivery. This was bought from the rainforest to but sent out by poetic.
Camera recessed sounds spot on. The cases bought after the 14th have the fixed IR blaster issue. Maybe this is why its going to take ages to come.

Pics would be great thanks :-)

I'm waiting for the Poetic as well.
agree that i'm pretty sure the reason there is a delay at the moment is because they have changed the design to fix the IR blaster issue. not that it wants to work with my TV anyway :\
I'm sure I've read somewhere that if you have the old one, contact Poetic and they'll send you a new one when available.

Erm according to a hexus news article, Japan are getting a HTC One with a SD slot!

Way to go at making people who already own them happy with their purchase htc!

Forgive the noise, it's cause by the lightsource I was using.

Would I contact them through the rainforest or via their website?

I think I agree with most of what you've said, but a few points on this. I don't think a smartphone will ever work 'well' in dark conditions, the lens just isn't big enough to let enough light in. Also, photographers pay 4 figures for a camera that has a good enough sensor to take great pictures in dark conditions, I can't imagine a sensor that expensive would be put into a smart phone. I think we just need to accept this limitation.

I wouldn't have thought Night Mode used a form of HDR does it? Surely it just adjusts the sensor sensitivity (ISO). (Having just tried it, I see it does do some 'processing' after the shot. Do you happen to have a link to anything explaining how it works?)

I don't mean "dark" conditions :p, just standard indoor/lower light conditions, from what I have seen so far, the one really shines in this area and would be quite a bit better than my one S I think.

Very true, smartphone cameras will never match a proper good camera for the reasons you mentioned but they will/can improve each year and eventually..... we will have a really good camera for every area :p

Here you go:

Unfortunately night mode introduces huge shot to shot latency that seems to be on the order of seconds — tap the button, capture runs, then there’s a progress bar that pops up while multiple exposures are ostensibly recombined into one image. You also have to be exceptionally steady to get an image without blur since it appears that this mode takes multiple images to get to the end goal — a better exposed image without tons of noise.

EDIT:

Also you could use the HDR mode on the one to get even better results in lower light (even dark conditions) too. The process time for it is very quick in comparison to other phones HDR/night modes.

They did that with the chinese version months ago :p

Also has a removable battery too iirc :p

But iirc, it doesn't have the proper machined uni-body so none of the fancy antenna setup etc.

Cheers Nexus, to be honest I think my Galaxy Nexus takes good shots so I'll be amazed by either! ha

Lol, then yes you will be pretty impressed with both coming from the GN! :p :D

I found the images came out very blurry/out of focus when using HDR mode.

You are right! My bad :p

Yup, from reading, it seems it still has the same uni-body design/process, however, the back part/cover (which is still metal) is just removable (although it hasn't been confirmed for the Japanese version, but going by the Chinese version, it should be the same....)

Also, the Chinese version doesn't actually have a removable battery, I thought it did......

Wonder why HTC do that  Either lose the SD slot completely or have it on every phone..... Can't say it bothers me when it comes to SD slots as I much prefer internal storage to SD cards but it is the principle of it! :p

Has anyone got any links to guides for the camera. How to take decent night shuts, what ISO to use etc?

I had a really quick go at the weekend and failed hard (with the old firmware).

It has come!

First impression is very light but very cold & feels good in the hand!

The HTC sync worked a treat moving everything from the N4 to this. Now just to get everything set up how I want it before work!

Typing feels good I have to say using the HTC keyboard, I'm not sure if I'll use 4.2 keyboard yet :p

OMG THE SPEAKERS ARE AMAZING!

AFAIK, not any guides out there, just "tips" in posts on xda etc.

This is what I would do:

- reduce sharpness to -1
- you want more saturated colours, put the contrast or saturation up to +1 (generally if a shot looks washed out, you can use auto enhance in the gallery or a 3rd party app like snapseed to improve the colours or of course do it manually)
- I would leave ISO to auto and the rest to auto/default
- choose the correct preset for the scenario/object that you are shooting
- use zoe or burst mode (by holding the shutter/camera button down) for moving objects or/and if you don't have a steady hand
- mess around with HDR in a number of scenarios and get to know what it is best for, also use this for night/low light shots, I find that it works best for me when it comes to cloudy days or where you have one area that is very bright and another area that is darker, backlit scenarios (there is a separate preset for this too but HDR works just as well, if not better....), dark conditions (although only when the object that you are shooting isn't moving but with the one, this might not be a problem since the process time is faster)
- if an image doesn't look great or you want it to look better, use snapseed or the stock sense gallery to edit it
- touch to focus, although this shouldn't be used all the time i.e. when taking a landscape photo, you are better of just pointing, let it focus automatically and take the shot, it is also a good way to adjust the exposure
- once the camera focuses, don't take the shot as soon as possible, give it a second or two in order for the OIS to compensate and supposedly this reduces the blur especially on the right hand side and increases the sharpness by quite a bit
- try to get accustomed to the rule of thirds :p

Unfortunately you won't get many great shots no matter what you do when running any software before the newest V1.29 though....

You can use this site to help improve your shots too:

http://digital-photography-school.com/tips

It is meant more for proper camera equipment but a lot of the stuff still applies and can be done with phone cameras.

This depresses me. :( If three don't sort it out soon I may have to resort to rooting and flashing, which I don't want to do.

Thanks for the tips though!

I was trying to shoot a fox (randomly) outside in the dark and I was getting strong blue tints in the corners from any light sources. It was basically a black picture with blue tints on the sides. I'm hoping this was a mixture of my poor shooting skills and the earlier firmware and not a faulty camera.

How dark are we talking about here? I presume very dark? :p

Whilst the one is good and does a better job than other phones in those conditions, the results it produces in dark conditions aren't always of "good quality", if there is virtually no light then the image will still come out black/dark regardless of having big pixels.

I did a bit of reading and what I saw suggested there was a roughly 10% increase in thickness and weight for the one J, there's a bunch of potential reasons why thats the case if true such as different antennas potentially etc etc but I'd guess a large one is the SD card slot.

I know we all go on about it and I do find it handy in my S4 but I still think you'd be surprised how little a buying decision that is for the vast majority of people.

Apple for example don't seem to be struggling with a non removable battery and no external memory.

That said if I were HTC and I could incorporate it with minimal downsides (I wouldn't class a 10% increase in size and weight minimal) I would certainly include it in a samsung-esque kitchen sink approach to winning business.

Its worth bearing in mind the increase in manufacturing cost and probable increase in repair costs over time due to it being pretty much the only optional inclusion of a moving part the user can get as and ruin by sticking a card in backwards or getting sunny delight in it etc.

Oh, didn't see that! Interesting, would back up HTC claims about that before "we want lighter and thinner devices" :p

Indeed, for the mass consumers/average joes, removable battery and SD slot wouldn't bother them at all, heck most of them probably don't even know what a SD card is :p Let alone use one even if they could! (most of my friends/family either don't know what it is or/and don't use one) As google said, according to them and their tests, the majority find it confusing....

Spot on with the iphone example, same goes for the nexus devices too. The lack of SD slot and/or removable battery seems to only be a deal breaker for the likes of most of us on here etc. especially at XDA...

Once more tariffs/contracts give more data allowance, better coverage, internal storage and SD slot will be a thing of the past :p

Very true that last part there too.
