***The Official HTC One Thread***

Good read that thep02! :)

Such a shame.

I wouldn't worry about it too much tbh as it seems to be mainly the US division/department and just because people are leaving doesn't neccasrily mean that HTC's future is doom and gloom :p It just seems like they weren't happy working for HTC and that the CEO is the main cause of the frustration. It will cause quite a shake up for the time being, hopefully they will get their act sorted before next years flagship device.

However, I get the feeling that they are going to be concentrating more so on just their own "turf" for the future :(, can't say that I blame them tbh as unfortunately Samsung/Apple just are dominating everywhere else, especially the USA market.

As superb as it would be for google to buy them, I can't see them doing it (if worse comes to worst that is), they have Motorola and currently they don't really know what to do with them so having HTC would be just too much. Some people think that amazon buying them could be a good idea/move, hard to say, one thing for sure would be the marketing and supply chain etc. would be a heck of a lot better then! :p

To put a more positive spin on it all, the One has been selling pretty damn well.

Was just about to post that!

Have to say that is pretty impressive. Imagine how many they would have sold if they had the same level of marketing/sales commissions as Samsung and same brand presence and of course plenty of stock!?

EDIT: Since I bought mine from Rainforest (ordered over the weekend) they seem to have added £4.95 on top for delivery. Bit of a shame but still reasonable compared to the Casemate Barely There IMO

it looks like last week Amazon were shipping it.
I got one with free Prime delivery
but now it is Poetic-UK themselves that are doing it hence the delivery charge

with any luck, Amazon get this and the atmosphere in stock themselves soon and we can get free delivery again.

Got my HTC one earlier as a work phone, it's on EE. Liking it so far, need to get some stuff onto it though :)

It is running firmware 1.28.61.7, I thought there was 1.29? Finding updates finds nothing.

Got an update regarding my HTC One that has gone in for repair,

UPS collected the phone on Tues afternoon as HTC promised, then fast forward to today I get home to see a package delivered to me by UPS, it feels like my boxed up phone! I open the package and it certainly is my phone, but at the same time I was a bit concerned as I thought that it may of been a failed delivery and it has been returned to me, but upon opening the package I also see a letter enclosed from HTC.

HTC have tested the phone, but state that after thorough testing of my phone, they could not find any problems with the camera. Right... So straight away I decided to give them a call and find out how and why they could not find any problems, got through to them instantly and the chap could not really give me a detailed reason as to why they couldn't find any problems with the phone and I then kind of went into rant mode and explained to them that I was not happy with this (but I also stated that I was happy with the extremely fast turnaround) and that if I felt that the phone's camera was operating fine then I wouldn't of raised the issue up with them to begin with. I also explained to them that I experienced a near enough identical problem with my old HTC Desire HD when it first came out back in 2010 and that they replaced the entire camera unit the second time it went it for repair (the first time they claimed that re-flashing the firmware at their repair centre cured the problem, but it didn't).

I understand that HTC have procedures and methods of testing but as you all know - if you spend nearly £500 on a phone, you expect it to work exactly as it should and the chap on the phone today agreed with me and he happily booked the phone to be booked in for another repair and UPS are coming to pick up the phone again tomorrow. The phone is also booked in as a priority job so that it would be sorted out ASAP.

Despite this minor step back, I'm still very happy with how spot on HTC's customer support is. Hopefully by next week the phone will be sorted out properly :)

Oh, this is interesting!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41763377&postcount=6197

the "resignation" of the Chief Product Officer of HTC Kouji Kodera was not some out of the blue surprise. This was
already stated "as fact" by Taiwanese media on January 3, citing the Taiwanese Commercial Times (the equivalent of the WSJ there)

Mr. Gordon left the company to take responsibility for an unsuccessful advertising campaign of the One X series last year, said another HTC executive

Seems like there is a very good chance of a stock android HTC one:

HTC One stock Android edition could be “announced within two weeks

A launch of a HTC One stock Android edition in the U.S. is “imminent”, according to sources quoted by the same writer that mentioned the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition before its release.

Normally, this could be treated like yet another HTC One stock Android rumor, but this time the information comes from Geek.com's Russell Holly, a man known for not being a fan of baseless rumors, and, most importantly, the man that broke the news about the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition being launched at Google I/O.

Quoting “multiple sources,” Holly says that the “senseless” edition of the HTC One will be a reality very soon – it should be announced sometime during the next two weeks. The possible release date of the device, which would be running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, is said to be at some point during the summer.

The HTC One stock edition would be available in the U.S. at the beginning, which makes Holly think that it's possible for Google to sell it itself, through the Google Play Store.

Don't get your hopes up! My experience of their repair centre is that they are nothing short of awful. My desire went back to them around eight times and they still failed to get it right.

They then upgraded me to a broken desire HD!

Hmm upgrade phonecall tomorrow to renew my contract! Htc or s4 ? Im coming from an s2 :)

I reluctantly replaced my S2 with the HTC One. The reluctance disappeared within 5 seconds of holding the HO and turning it on. Do it. The S4 is basically the S3 with a slightly larger screen and a bunch of gimmicks on it you won't ever use after the first week. Not to mention apparently the S4 lags quite a lot. Not sure if that got fixed or not?

I love my One and I actually think Sense 5.0 is pretty good, but an AOSP One…. the stuff my dreams are made of. That would be fantastic.

Crazy though it is, I might even sell my Sense One for an AOSP One... just because I feel like this kind of endeavour needs supporting.

Battery seems to have gotten better after the first few charges/first week

Also, clean at last :D ( taken with phone)

Nope i have a S4 and it still lags "with touchwiz" from when it just woken up mainly, using nova launcher get rid of the lag, but the phone only just really come out so i expect to get this sorted soon with future updates.

As for being a S3 with a better screen & gimmicks I thought that at first, until i actually tried one in the shop, granted i turn off all the air gestures as i have no need for them, what made me get the S4 and get rid of the S3, was the spec list it's a decent upgrade to the S3, when you consider it has 2gb of ram 4G ect, compared the standard S3.

Now if i had either a Note II or a S3 LTE version then maybe not worth upgrading to the S4, but those with the I9300 then it's a worthy upgrade in my book.

Another thing worth noting with the S4 is the camera, while it does have a narrower FOV compared to the S3, the Jpeg picture quailty is a lot better, more detail/less noise than the S3, and this is from a 13mp sensor compared to the 8mp sensor on the S3.

Oh dear, this doesn't sound promising then. Mine is on it's way back to me today, I wont be home until tomorrow though.

Tell me about it, I hope that this time for me it will be worth it.

I wasn't going to bother to turn on the phone at all when it was returned back to me yesterday but late last night I decided to see if they had done any tinkering with the phone as it did have a protective plastic sheet on the screen so I turned it on and looking through the camera photos I found that the engineer their end had taken a couple of test shots of their desk, and I bet that is all they did to test it out... and also probably re-flashed the firmware to begin with.

The phone has just been picked up by UPS again, we will see what happens next week! Let us know how you get on with your repair as well :)

I'm on the cusp of ditching my iphone 5 and getting an HTC one, but have a few questions (for anyone who's made the switch)

1. Black or White? I'd love the idea of the black (my iphone is black) but despite the fact I am very careful (use a sleeve etc), the anodizing still wears off, how does the black HTC one hold up?

2. Call quality, I find my iPhone 5 pretty bad on signal and call quality compared to my S3 work phone, how does the HTC one do on signal strength and call quality?

3. Lag - I use an S3 (untweaked) as a work phone and I find it often lags particularly when using after its been on sleep for a while:
  • Opening apps
  • Keyboard appearing in things like SMS, chrome (especially swiftkey)
  • Returning to the home screen

Is this an S3 problem or the combination of apps (swiftkey + chrome etc)? I've found it less of an issue on my other halfs Nexus 4, but not sure how Sense compares to TW and stock android?

1. black will show marks more easily and show fingerprints/greasy marks, both have the same finish process and are pretty damn resistant against scratches i.e. a key doesn't actually scratch the back at all (leaves a mark but it rubs of easily), videos on youtube showing this stuff

2. pretty much every review and user has stated that the call quality is very good and clear, a few here have already reported that their signal is better than their iphone 5 etc.

3. problem with the GS 3 or to be more precise, touchwiz (especially when you have S-voice active/on) and the apps software optimisation with it and the exynos chipset

However, it could also be down to a rogue app running in the background......

Having had a good hands on time with all android phones and iphones, the HTC one is easily the fastest and smoothest android device yet (out of the box), just as good as the iphone 5 and slightly better than the nexus 4.

Really? Mine arrived 24hrs before yours and hasn't even been tested yet

I wouldn't mind so much, but it's completely dead - doesn't need much testing!

Thanks. The scratch tests I've seen look very good, but its round the edges I worry about, but guess the One has less sharp edges than the iphone 5, so should be less of an issue.

Reassuring on the software front on the S3 issues I experience.

I tried to play with some demo handsets in an o2 store, but they are covered in so much security stuff its hard to get a real feel for the hardware and software performance.
