If you are someone who wants support for as long as possible then you shouldn't be looking at any OEM android device, you will generally only get a max of 2 years support, if lucky... I have been stung twice with poor support and not even got a full year of updates due to lame ass reasons, which is why I went with the nexus 5 in the end and will most likely stay with the nexus line until google/manufacturers work on some way to sort out android fragmentation.
The M7 does get the lollipop update. it wont be getting 5.1 tho, which is Fox's complaint.
Give it time, HTC may even update it to 5.1 if they feel the 5.0 release is poor.
Got 5.1 on my GPe M7 just now. My home and back buttons still don't have working LEDs under them.......

It's strange how the One M7 was updated to Lollipop, but the One Max wasn't. Especially considering it was released 7 months after the M7![]()
Probably as the M7 has a much bigger user base? Is the One max due to get it? XDA will probably tell you
Just checked XDA and looks like Lollipop was released in Taiwan for the One Max a few hours ago!
System update available for my HTC One M7 on EE.
Downloading now but suspect its just bug fixes....
