Seriously, I have been holding out for this phone since September with my DHD, I can't wait any longer for stocks to come in and monthly prices to drop :(

It's so hard to wait *weep*

I'm definitely preferring the silver without a screen protector as I use a pouch - anyone seen any good pouches for the One yet?

How many of you with a opinion actually have the phone?

What does that matter? If you're considering buying something you study all the reviews of it... generally.

The masses of reviews and picture samples speak for themselves in many ways. Obviously if the camera is improved then that may change... but at the moment it's not great.

No pouch here, but I did get the official HTC flip case free from Vodafone and it's a very nice. I don't normally use a case with my phones but this one is a really good fit, the materials feel premium and it doubles up as a stand.

I'm not saying the pictures couldn't be tidier, but I'm yet to find a smartphone where that is not the case and I've had a lot of smartphones.

All I am saying is that I can take pictures indoors a night under artificial light and they are actually coming out usable. Not something I can say I've had with other phones. (I haven't had any of the latest Nokias.)

I take a a proper camera to places where I want nice shots so I'm not worried about anything other than getting a nice impromptu shot when I need one.

This looks an awesome bit of kit! I've currently got the HTC Desire and fancy a new gadget... really liking the silver over the black. The new HTC Sense looks great too, in comparison to what is on the Desire. Sim free phone for me as I currently pay £10 for a sim only deal with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 3GB data! Going by the reviews it seems to fly through everything. Such a powerful device.

Looking forward to getting one :)

The camera is very good as long as you use it as most do which is taking pictures of your friends in bars and clubs etc.

If you take close up shots of your mums petunias in direct sunlight all day and need to zoom into every petal to examine the genetic differences of each one, then yeah, maybe this phone isn't for you.

I believe the most common phone pics are close ups of flowers, iirc I read it in a metro,.

Has any other site confirmed the camera firmware update or just passed on the news from HardwareZone. Have we seen anything truly official from HTC on this yet? I'm just wondering about corroboration.

The website that was reporting the camera firmware upgrade has posted this update:

"Updated 26/3/13: HTC has clarified that the second unit which we received "has the final commercial firmware, compared to the original unit which was pre-production and had an isolated hardware issue, which resulted in differences between the two sets of photos taken with both devices." According to our understanding, all the commercial sets which will launch in April will come already updated with this firmware. As such, there will be no second camera update for the One, unlike what we previously wrote below"

So it's not down to the firmware update and apparently the HO they had for the review had the lens problem. So it seems that there are versions of the HO that either have decent camera hardware or the defective one. It's basically pot luck with one you end up getting. So not impressed with HTC in that respect :(

Thought it was too good to be true regarding just a software fix as it didn't explain why everyone was having variable results with the same software.

@ Stoosh, that might account for the end of April beginning of May quotes I was given in the various shops, attempting to sort out the hardware issue, imo the aspect where the Ho stands out, for me, is the amped big forward facing speakers but that's not a top criteria as speakers or a dock will sort that for Vids or movies.

Exactly! Rather a mixed bag regarding all the photos floating about the web. Shame really :(

Good (or rather bad) spot stoosh

Cheers Mate, wish I really didn't spot it though!

I was thinking the same, sarge mentioned that the manufacturing process was delayed because of a shortage of mega pixel lenses maybe that and the hardware issues resulted in the delays. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the new batches that are due for release very shortly don't have the issue.

In my short time that I had the HO, I totally loved it and it's the phone for me, will wait until it's confirmed that the new batch does not have any problems then I will jump back to it again. I agree with you in regards to the speakers, they are so damn loud, the clarity is outstanding, you do not need any additional speakers attached to the phone to watch films or video.

Totally love the phone! :)

Unfortunately with the sense launcher, yup :(, you can just untick all the sources though so nothing refreshes/updates and then swipe to the right for your standard homescreens where you can add widgets etc.

sussed it :) You just create a new home screen and set that as default. Job jobbed. Loving the phone so far though.

Even got a free leather htc case and a set of beats headphones that ill never use.

Anyone rooted yet?

Rooting my Desire way back when was easy enough and rooting Samsung phones is easier still. Looking through XDA though it doesn't seem quite so straightforward for the One. Would appreciate any comments from those that have done it yet. Being able to root and install custom ROMs is my #1 priority when buying a phone, it's just as much a hobby for me as a communication device!

I'm planning to root but I'm not sure if I want to yet, due to some stock apps in the data partition, which gets wiped when you unlock the bootloader. Quite silly HTC not making these apps part of the /system folder instead.
