Useful intel - I've added it to the first post!

There seems to be some conflicting information regarding the video capture side. This is what Engadget said:

The One X captures 1080p video at a silky smooth 30fps with continuous autofocus and stereo audio. Results mostly look sharp and sound clear -- we noticed some faint video compression artifacts (bitrate is 10Mbps) and the automatic gain control reacted a little too quickly to wind noise, but this is nothing to be concerned about in most situations.

So they are talking about a solid 30fps at 1080p and a 10Mbps bitrate. However, here is what PhoneArena said:

Just what was HTC thinking when choosing the type of video capture for the One X is beyond us, but they actually come up with the strange decision to have the camcorder record 1080p video at 22-23 frames per second. Not that it's impossible to watch, but it's not as smooth as what we've gotten used to. The video quality is very good – strong detail presence and natural colors, but the mediocre frame rate kind of ruins the whole thing.

Now given the samples we've seen so far, I'd trust PhoneArena more on this one. I've not seen one sample suggesting a solid 30fps for the One X and Engadget didn't even provide one! Looks like I'll be hanging on the sides until this is resolved (it it ever will be...) Poor video recording is the main chink in this handset imo.

Are you allowed to drop the data within x months of your contract?

You can drop the data at any time, even right away. The option is not available online via the o2 website, you need to actually speak to an o2 adviser (via live webchat or you can ring them) but they can definitely remove it for you bringing the monthly cost down to £10.50.

Just to be clear, you have to pay for data for the first month. I ordered a similar package for the Xperia S. I phoned O2 as soon as I had received my handset and cancelled the data bolt-on. You are charged for the first month and then it is removed after that.
