*** The official HTC One X thread ***

haha nice :D

Don't really have any interest in these voice apps though as they are just gimmicks really :p But it will be interesting to see what HTC does with it and if they will add anything new :)

Quite agree, it's bad enough the mrs answering at you without the phone coming up with daft answers. She has siri on her iPhone and can't think she's ever used it!

Anyone have this issue on latest maximus? When changing track the beats audio turns on and off causing a mighty lag when in between songs or switching song

With the stock ROM, auto brightness and WiFi always on I get around 3 hours screen time and 24 hours of standby out of it. It really is the screen time that affects the overall battery life - the thing would sit in standby forever.

Hoping for better with a new ROM.

No its not. its the apps and stuff you are using in the background as well wifi and phone signal strength

Nexus - I'll have to have a look at a GS III that is working really. Only a quick look at one in a shop before the assistant pounced on me. I thought it would be a whole lot bigger than the One S with the 4.8" screen but not so. I would be buying outright so cost does come into it.

Yeah Samsung have done a great job with the ergonomic design of it  Really wouldn't think that it was bigger than the X

I'm not in any hurry. If signal issue was to be sorted then I'd not be looking at anything else for sure. I'm using the Trickdroid ROM and it pretty much is on the same software version as yours. Well in honesty it is the same .. 1.7summert? Hopefully we'll see soon though I'd not get the update over the air but through a TrickDroid update?

I could go back to stock (I think) I have a nandroid backup I took before flashing any roms - I presume this would put me back to stock or there are stock EU roms to download and flash? I've never actually gone back so may need to read up on that or ask about?

Yeah 1.78 version or something like that.

The developer will just update the base package to the latest when available for the international version of the S, so you would have to flash a new zip package in the recovery or something like that, I think. So as soon as it is out/released you should get it within a day, where as for us still on stock waiting for OTA update, it will take about a week or 2 probably.

No idea how you would go back to stock ROM (no clue about rooting and flashing custom ROMs on HTC devices yet :p) :o, I imagine you would have to flash a stock ROM or something like that instead though?

Heres the thing though. Yesterday I ended up with about 37% without signal and today so far I'm on 0%? I'm in the same place of course. Maybe yesterdays heavy rain had something to do with it? I really hope an update sorts the issue

Rain/heavy clouds will definitely affect the signal, so that is most likely why.

Unfortunately in the UK, that is all we get though for most of the year :p :( :o

Likewise! Hope to see something very soon as I am satisfied with my signal, however, I am pretty sure that it should be better than what it is. Also you will see in the S thread that I am now having problems with the signal cutting out as well so far today!!!! :(

Tbh ive had my SGS3 now for a few days and compared to the One X...its not that much more difficult to hold...actually id go as far to say that i prefer the SGS3 ergonomically over the One X....thats not to say that the One X is a shoddy built phone but for me, the SGS3 feels nicer in my hand...its not as slippery as i thought it would be.

Still trying to get used to having the power button on the side of the phone, sometimes i keep pressing on top then realising...dohhh its on the side now:p

Indeed! Prefer the looks/design and feel of the X by miles but in terms of comfort when holding the mobile, the GS 3 by a mile :p :D

haha :D I personally prefer the power/lock button on top, but it does make a lot more sense to have it on the side instead :p

Good stuff!

Robbo, have you tried the AOSP ROMs like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597778 at all?

Am I right in thinking that once I've unlocked the boot loader and rooted once either manually or by installing a rooted ROM, I can use Titanium to back everything up and restore at will? I assume that means I can switch ROMs whenever and just restore?

Cheers matey, you seem the man to ask :)

I haven't tried that ROM, it looks good though. So far I've only tried ArHD7 and Maximus.

I don't actually use Titanium Backup, but as far as I know that's how it works. Quite a few people on here use it though, so you could ask in the Essential Apps thread for clarification!

Will do, thanks.

I think I might give this Maximus ROM a try just to get the extra battery life out of it. I think I've read enough to understand roughly what I am doing, but the link you gave to the XDA thread the other day has me confused.

The guy mentions flashing Fastboot 2.0. I'm not sure what he means by that, or whether it's his English that's making it seem odd. What was the procedure you followed?

Thanks again mate :)

This is the rooting guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592355

There shouldn't be anything too confusing there.

If you're talking about the specific instructions for Maximus, where he says:

Flash Android Fastboot Kit V2.0 before flashing device. It contains new kernel needed for proper work. I don't know how will work other custom kernels on this ROM.

and

Use Android Fastboot KIT in attachment in order to install new boot.img

--

All that basically means is that you use his Fastboot 'kit', the kit being a .bat file. The download for the kit is at the bottom of his post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601543

Ahh, gotcha. Basically use his files and not the ones in that guide.

I assume there's nothing here that will stop me flashing to anything else later?

I used the fastboot files from the rooting guide, I'm not sure if you can replace them with his files... I'd probably (just to be 'proper') do exactly as it says, and then replace them after you've finished all of the guide.

It won't stop you doing anything in future. Once the recovery is on, you're good to go, you can flash whatever you like with relative ease.

I'm sure you'll be fine as long as you follow the instructions!

Make sure u do a full wipe before u install the new fastboot. that fixed an issue i was having mate

Thanks mate.

All unlocked, it's just creating a backup in CWM now.

So, next I want to boot into stock, copy the new ROM over, flash the new boot image then back into CWM to wipe everything?

Just trying to find the command for the boot image now.

EDIT: Just noticed there's a batch file for that, so that's easy :) I don't need the CWM that's in there too do I?
