Just installed it on iPhone 15 pro. So far so good. I don’t have a Developer account.

These all work:

First Direct
Monzo
Microsoft Authenticator

Just tried a load of apps and everything works fine so far.

Might give it a go.

Working fine on my iPad Pro M4 so far. Seems rather snappy, especially Safari so all good at the moment

Nice, how did you get it without a dev account?

Don’t need one anymore. Just go to device update, select beta and it gives you the option for the developer beta :)

You really shouldn't need this @LiE . I didn't have to do this and it shows for me, both iPhone and iPad. Try a restart?

Actually, my Apple ID is registered as a developer if that makes any difference. I did it over a decade ago but can't remember the original reason. I don't know if that's making any difference.

iPad Pro M4 here…

Starling bank fine for me.
Hive needed signing in again.
Majority of first party apps seem to have full menu support, a la MacOS, but most third party apps don’t. Oddly, Spark email and BusyCal have full menu support on the current versions.

Resizeable window on the 4K 27” LG is about as close to MacOS as I think they’d go without cutting in to MacBook sales. This is bloody nice really. Not really used it with an external display before, but sound is straight out of the monitor… was that a thing previously?

UPDATE: External display very crash prone.

UPDATE 2: VERY VERY crash prone!

I installed the beta this morning, I tried the external display in the past and found it far too zoomed in. Is it now possible to set the resolution? I will have to give it a go later this evening. If you can, that would be fantastic.

The movable windows are great, and really make the iPad far more usable than it used to be. Likewise the background tasks continue even when they are the background task/window. Gone at eh MS Dos days I guess!

One thing I’d love to happen is a way to lock the menu bar. But I guess that would eat into the max sales. At the moment you have to use the trackpad to access the menu bar.

In the current beta, I find that using touch is far more responsive than using the trackpad to move the windows. I find it stalls a lot when using the trackpad (Magic Keyboard)

Another issue I found was that I’m now unable to connect to my phones hotspot. It keeps failing, no matter what I do. Trying to pair with Bluetooth also fails.

Finally they have provided the Journal App for both iPad and Mac. It was crazy that this wasn’t available from the start as the Journal app is much more suited than the phone.

FYI, to switch between window and full screen on an app, just double tap the top of the app.

And I was wrong, to access the menu bar via touch just swipe down from the top.

This is a fantastic upgrade for the iPad. It makes it far more usable for productivity than before. I’d resigned myself to just using my iPad for media consumption. Now, I can actually leave my MacBook at home, and enjoy the best of both worlds.

I do think at some point they will merge both the MacBook and the iPad into one unit. When you dock it to a keyboard it runs like a MacBook, and when not it turns into the current iPad OS.

There’s way too much overlap for Apple to keep both.

Im very impressed with what’s on offer so far. I was ready to sell my iPad, but now I fully intend to keep it.
I will certainly use it more now than I have in the past. It was just next to my bed, slowly losing charge.

I wonder if this will finally address the overheating (and consequential screen dimming to protect hardware) issues on iPads, and iPhones to be fair.

M2 iPad is utterly useless at anything CPU intensive unless in battery saver mode, so there must be a way they can optimise demanding apps by bottlenecking the CPU. Honestly, it would be a more useful device if it just had a worse processor in it.

Similarly, if I use my iPhone on max or close to brightness and on 5G it overheats and dims the screen within minutes. It’s pathetic really.

Basically what I’m saying is the best feature they could add to OS26 is something that bottlenecks the CPU for power users doing demanding work for any period of time.

Surely thats a hardware issue?

Could be the apps they are using.

I use the Bee Network App for Public Transport times in Manchester, and it’s woeful. After about 5 mins of use, my screen dims to the point of it not being usable. This is on iPhone 13 Pro Max. The stagecoach app it replaced never had this issue.

It also chews through my battery like nothing else. I’ve learned to check the times, then swipe up and close the app. Otherwise it just runs in the background eating away at my battery.

It’s the only app that does this. It’s shockingly bad.

It’s a developer issue rather than an Apple issue.

OP needs to complain to the developers of the app, if they ever listen.

Out of curiosity, what apps are you using? As I stated above, I have this issue with the Bee Network App . this is the only app that does this. I can run the Logic Pro app no problem.

Also what kind of case are you using. And what kind of screen protector have you got. It could be those that are your issue as well. Maybe try a glass screen protector? The heat needs to escape somewhere, and if you’re encasing it in thick plastic, then that’s the issue

I don’t have any protection on my iPad other than the official keyboard case but I still have the same issues when I hold it without a case.

The main culprit is Adobe Lightroom but it also happens with Luma Fusion, the native photos app, copying large files using the native files app etc.

I already had Apple look at it and there’s nothing wrong with it. Unfortunately it’s simply down to bad software optimisation and the fact there is inadequate cooling for the M2/M4 processors to work anywhere near their potential. I hate to sound cynical but those CPUs are there because of marketing nonsense and serve no usability for people like myself who want to actually do CPU intensive stuff like editing RAW files or edit high res video.

There are thousands of complaints in forums and when I’ve asked YouTubers why they don’t flag it in their flawless reviews the response is along the lines of Apple will shut them down if they mention it.

Of course this could all be fixed if they bottlenecked the CPU somehow with certain applications that are demanding for extended periods of time (Lightroom is a great example).

Battery saver mode already does this reasonably well but it limits the refresh rate and dims the screen a fair bit which considerably worsens the experience of working in Lightroom.

I know just they weren't listed there at the time.

Performance and heat is horrible for the first few hours, not too bad now, it's actually pretty good for a beta 1.
