*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

The simple fact is that gaming on iOS is the biggest money maker.

Games alone represent 17.5% of the total App Store. The next closest being iBooks at 10%.

15 of the top 25 paid apps are currently games - Apple know this and that's way there was such a focus at the iPad conference on gaming. Having big names like Epic and Namco there was to send a message.

I'd say that's more from the iPhone/iPod touch side of things than the iPad...

Apple aren't stupid and pushing the iPad as a gaming device would be totally bizarre. It will never be its main focus.

£220 for 16gb iPad 1, you should be snapping their hand off :p

I am, jokingly asked if he was after one today, he said he might be, offered him it at that price and he was all excitable! Strange man!

Any ideas where I could pick one up on release day? or near there? He's said he'll happily wait for the ipad 1 till I have my 3 :D

106 / 200 of the top paid apps are games on the iPad store.

It depends on the types of games though, 3D games that require heavy interaction aren't going to work well, but others might do.

Apple won't 'lead' with gaming to push the iPad. I don't know why anyone would think that, games are part of it, nothing more.

I've seen plenty of people on the Tube and train playing games on their iPad. The thing for me is, that I don't games that have a controller GUI on screen - it's ham fisted and a square-peg-round-hole type thing. Touch-based games should be a little more clever w/regards to controls.

Next time someone tries to play a tilt controlled game, watch and laugh, you might as well give a book and tell them to pretend they're playing GT5.

The only games that work well (and don't make you look like a window licker in public) are stuff like Angry Birds, stuff that doesn't require you to tilt/rotate the thing

Just sold my HP touchpad for £160 plus £15 for the touchstone charger.... not bad :)

Makes the £464 for the iPad hurt a little less....cant wait until friday :D

Racing games work well (more-so the isometric ones).

Arcade games like Jetpack Joyride / Infinity blade.

Adventure games like Monkey Island.

Strategy games like C&C / Civilisation.

Simulation games like Sim City.

Time Crisis type games.

So really, anything apart from:

Hardcore racers

First person shooters

Sports

The poor controls are greatly exaggerated - the majority of games actually work as well, if not better with a touchscreen.

Im surprised there has been so few Nintendo DS ports given the touchscreen focus of that platform...some great titles on there :)

lol - you think Nintendo would allow that? :p

From what everyone says though, why don't they? Apple aren't a competitor afterall

Completely unrelated but I really wish Apple would add vibration to the iPad... can't see the reason not to.

I can't imagine trying to play a FPS on an iPad lol, I find it had enough trying to play Trial Extreme, playing Sonic on the iPad isn't much easier lol

Well true, but the third party games could be ported

UPS decided to deliver my Smart Cover today, it said ETA Friday when I ordered it and even on the UPS tracking it said Friday.

I'll get it delivered for Friday so it will be UPS with the smart cover VS TNT with the iPad :D
Adult signature is also required.. they better think I'm over 18 :D

Rang up UPS to get it re-delivered. You speak to computers with your tracking number and then say you want it to be re-delivered on 'x' date and it confirms it with you.. Crazy stuff :o It's like Siri phone support. Apple use the same sort of thing to transfer you to the correct department :D

I have seen people playing games that use the acceleromter, although not many. When you've got up before 6am and are repeating the daily grind on the train and tube to work, what other bleary-eyed, miserable-looking commuters are doing generally isn't of much importance. The only time people glance over snootily are when they're not using headphones and are blaring out terrible game music/sounds down the carriage, which thankfully isn't too often (ear buds are another matter though).

Seeing as I passed my Prince 2 Practitioner course the other day I've decided to treat myself to a tablet. Played with me nephews ipad 2 on the weekend and really liked the form factor (how thin it was!) and the GUI - was surprised how well it worked for web browsing compared to the Hanspree Hanspad I own'ed for about 2 weeks.

As Anti-Apple as I am, Even I couldn't resist the 2048x1536 display! - hell yeah! - Got two booked for launch day - one for me, one for profit :)

Roll on friday! (I still don't like iphones :p )
