So Apple upgrade plan prices are out.

iPhone x 64gb about £54 a mth and 256gb is £64 a month. Obviously a 20mth 0% interest plan. Makes it slightly affordable for me but still not sure.

Heart is set on the iPhone x but I might plump for the 8+ instead.

Going to wait for the hype to die down ie next yr will probably be when I upgrade my 6s to something else.

I can easily justify this as I keep the phone for 4 years compare to most people who are on 2 year contract and I can afford the sticker price. I just feel like it is too indulgent and almost irresponsible spending this amount of money on a phone really. The most productive thing on it are the apps and all smart phones runs the same app basically between a £200 or £1000 phone. The extra main hardware features over say the one I’ve ordered (£160) so….for extra £840 I get:-

1- Water resistence
2- Wireless charging
3- NFC
4- Face ID tech
5- Apple eco system
6- Dual camera (but the one in mine is 21mp and tbh….couldn’t careless about phone cameras)

I am sure the tech above, if broken down separately can be argued that each one is worth say £100 more in R&D but the main thing I am or will be missing is the NFC and Apple eco system, and I am thinking if that is worth £840….in terms of the value I get from it, and let's not talk about Emoji FFS.

From the reviews, the Elephone S8 I’ve ordered runs near (almost) stock android, and reviews says very snappy and basically no bloat to the OS.
I agree it's not worth it and we both like our needlessly expensive kit!

I had my iPhone 4 for 5 years then an iPhone 6s. See no reason for the upgrades available yet.

I see it like this.

You use water every day.

You drink water, and you pay, lets say £10 a month for it. It's a part of council tax etc but I digress.

People are happy paying £10 a month, and all is fine, then you're told super duper sparkling mega health water is £60 a month.

It's only £60 a month and you get extra health benefits and stuff, and you use it all the time so what's £60 a month?

Then when it's released you get sparkling water but no extra health, it's just boring sparkling water with emoji in it.

That's why people are disappointed.

Not sure why everyone is so shocked about the cost. This is marketed as a luxury item, its not supposed to be in reach of everyone. It's like complaining that the price of a Ferrari is too high.

I'd like a new phone but since buying a house and having to deal with those pesky adult bills I'm enjoying only paying £20 a month for my contract. i am finding my 3 year old iPhone 6 a little slow nowadays. I'm hoping with the 8 and X coming out, I'll be able to perhaps get a 7 at a reasonable price although I don't expect her indoors will agree until my 6 finally keels over, so far its survived many drops and even a trip down the toilet.

Indeed, I love spending money on new tech but with a phone I'm just not getting that itch like I do with other products.

Being on a 6 I might just buy a really cheap 6s or something to use when the mad selling rush ensues soon.

Its not a Ferrari nor anything like it. Its an iPhone and just like all the other iPhones before it but a newer generation, it's also not really any different to other top end phones on the market.

I am a huge iOS fan and have been since 2009 but even I can't defend what Apple have done here with the price. If your happy to pay it then fair enough but there are allot of Apple users which aren't happy with what has happened with the iPhone X's pricing.

Only a sad person would spend £1k on a mobile phone!

What a ridiculous statement :D

I can only imagine the logic behind that was:
- Think of something I don't like or not particularly fussed about
- Think of a number I would never pay because of the above point
- Making a sweeping statement about those who have a differing opinion to both the points above

I could say those who go out at the weekend and have nothing but a sore head to show for it are sad, because I don't do it nor does it interest me. Would be an unfair and untrue thing to say though

£1k isn't a lot of money to some, and a phone is something you'd use a lot every day. So why not? I will happily spend £1149 on the phone, same as I've happily paid the price for the new Apple phone every year. To me it's not a lot of money and over the course of a year, I more than get my moneys worth. Consider me sad

Does anyone think the ives video is really futuristic. Imagine watching that 10 years ago.

If you told me 10 years ago that a phone would be powered by a neural bionic engine powering a high dynamic range organic display I'd be like.....wow (even if its marketing speak)

The leaks somewhat tarnished the event for me, but that's the world we live in now....driven by these tech companies

I don't really care who invented the technology, it's impressive

and....the sound it makes at the 1:03 mark is worthy of the £1,000 price tag alone
