*** The Official LG Star Thread****

Wow, that was a big announcement, nVidia/TI/Qualcomm (and Apple) competing with intel for the desktop space. Things have just got interesting....

I'll have the tegra 2 in the Motorola thanks :p Here's anandtechs take 2 report on the architecture.

Anyone have any more news on this?

availible to pre-order on vodafone but I can;t see that anywhere... then again I'm useless at digging up info on phones (hence the bump)

It doesn't say its available to pre-order on Vodafone, it says it is available to pre-order at a possible competitor and Vodafone have come out with their contract prices for it. It is badly written though so I can see where you got that from.

I would urge people to hang fire until the various tech blogs/sites have got their hands on one properly as it is LG and they don't have a good track record with phones, even good companies can balls up a great looking phone (like Sony with the X10)!

ah yea, you're right there...badly (or cleverly) written.

I was all set to buy a DHD back in november until I caught a whiff of the nexus S, which I waited patiently for, until I found out it was not all it's cracked up to be, which is when the star / x2 caught my eye.

I'm still using an N95 8GB, which I've had since release! so although waiting just that little bit longer is not much of a problem I'm starting to get itchy feet, as i've been in the 'just wait another week' mentality for ages now.

Out of interest what is wrong with LG phones? Also does anyone know what other new phones are coming out around the same time?

In the past they have been generally poor on many fronts, just overall mostly.

That said, their new Windows 7 Optimus phone has been extremely impressive so maybe they have got their act together recently!

A few EU review units have started popping up... :)

Looks great to me... just make sure you select 1080p and view in full screen :) (looks rubbish @ 360p)

gsmarena had a good N8 comparison (which was taken down) Arart from the usual poor mobile dynamic range it almost matched the N8 for detail. I think 720p mode runs at 60fps too?

maybe it was the upload looked noisy to me in background would also be nice to see a good image stabiliser on it when taking video as the current crop move about far too much.

Bit rate seems to be the problem with those sample videos for the X2 @1080, just downloaded one and its only 6142 kbps, the I4 ones i have when i had one was 10680, and similar with the galaxy S at that time, lets just hope its those samples and it does higher bit rate as they won't look that good.

Here's same clip/location with a Nexus S...

How crappy does that look compared to the X2 @ 1080p :D

Not really as the Nexus S atm doesn't record in 720p so it will look crap but if its anything like the Galaxy S it will shoot some sweet videos.

Looks like the LG has 3 modes, super fine:11800kbps, fine:8600kbps and normal:6240kbps, all at roughly 28-30fps. Not bad for the first 1080p phone and viewing them over a HDMI will be a huge plus as well.

(All the .3gp files can be downloaded at Anandtech btw)
