*** The Official LG Star Thread****

It will be interesting if that mkv statementholds true.

Tegra 2 (including tablets) cant play common 720p and 1080p profiles in mkv. It wo9uld be a major coup if Samsung had a chip that could do this.

However, given that some of the SGS2s are coming with Tegra 2, that would create a major divide.

Another MASSIVE plus for this phone is that LG have not put any locked bootloaders in place. it is totally open. they have also made the drivers available.

If samsung lock down the SGS2, it will be a PITA to mod. The LG probably as easy as it gets.

Found the webpage that tested it here is what they said here is link and what they said.

"The video player had absolutely no trouble with any of the files we threw at it – starting with .WMV, through .AVI (DivX and XviD) and .MP4 to .MKV (H.264). Resolution wasn’t a problem either – the Samsung Galaxy S II played FullHD files. Large files of over 2GB worked as well.

Yeah it was a good side loading custom roms on the LG but I only ever use custom roms on Android phones as they never run smooth out the box, I actually liked the LG launcher but it was laggy hence moving from it.

I think 1gb or ram on the gs2 will help massively with having lots of apps installed.

Very interesting that exynos can apparently play all 720p mkv files. I hope someone does a full test of that at some point rather than just playing one or two files and saying "it works"

I am sure the galaxy s2 will be excellent and better than the LG optimus 2x. However, the improvements will be marginal. For the deals you can get on the Optimus 2x, it offers some serious value for money.

Did everyone else get an HDMI cable with their Optimus'? On Engadget and elsewhere people have said it comes bundled but I didn't get one. Wondering if the guy who sold it to me snaffled it.

Anybody got one of these and what do you think of it?
looking online they're selling for £270 brand new and sim free.
Quite tempted. I understand the stock rom is a bit rubbish so wondering what the best custom rom is.

Public service announcement for the user that didn't upgrade his or her phone because they were fed up with the lack of support or wanted something new and shiny to play with.

ICS has now been released, over a year after being announced and a whole 9 months late. Generally runs better than GB did although the lack of RAM obviously means it's not going to be as quick as it was meant to be.

More importantly, CM10 should appear in the new year once the source code is released.

PK - My OH had this phone for a year when it first came out (Apr 2011?). Went from 2.2 to 2.3 GB and ran ok for a while - then just got dog slow and laggy.

How much of an improvemnt is ICS just out of interest?

Obviously brings all the ICS improvements to the table but doesn't have any of the LG bloat that plagued the GB ROM.

Phone's generally quicker to use for day to day activities but is prone to the odd slowdown when running or downloading multiple apps at the same time. Wouldn't say it's a quick as custom GB based ROMs like CM or MIUI but it's a big improvement nonetheless.

It's not currently available through the LG updater but the European ROM, which is identical to the UK ROM, can be flashed using the NVflash toolkit which takes around 10 minutes.
