Just received my TOBS Cederwood and CF sample.

The TOBS bowl no longer has the TOBS printed directly on to the plastic but now has a printed sticker the bowl has a plastic cover seal - the bowl seems the same plastic. Also opening the three cederwoods and smelling, the old TOBS bowl has a more of a scent of cederwood than the new one. IIRC this was the same when the old bowl arrived - I think the scent on the top layer looses it in the manufacturing. The CF cedarwood is far stronger and you can definitely smell it as cedar. So I think I'll mix the new bowl contents up a bit to redistribute this time around and that will also remove the crustier-looking top surface that always exists from manufacturing/storage. I'm hoping that TOBS hasn't cut costs and reduced the amount of scent/oils used..

The first impression of the CF cedarwood sample is that it has the same shine as the TOBS Jermyn Street but obviously not the same smell. Perhaps the more expensive TOBS tubs use more essential oils which create that holographic shine.

I'll try a test with it tomorrow, and then I'm considering simply mixing in the CF into the TOBS to boost the smell if they've cheaped out..

EDIT: I used a cocktail stick to mix up the new tub. It's still weaker smelling than the old tub. Enough so that I've written an email to connaughtshaving to alert them to the change. The old tub is 1/2 way between the new tub and the CF sample scent level to give you an idea!

Castle and Forbes is slicker and a better shave than the TOBS from this morning’s experience - the mrs also agreed the the TOBS had no smell compared to the ild and the CF.
