***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

I use the Braun 790cc as i've never wet-shaved ever. I do find that I have to replace the shaver head about every 3 months as it blunts quickly. I need to shave every day, and in that time, need to go over the same patch about 3-4 times for the closeness and smoothness that works for me. (nothing more annoying than stubble catching/sticking in your shirt collar).

Does wet shaving really provide a totally smooth finish, and how does it deal with the odd spot or ingrown hair 'lump' ?

Yes it does if your technique and preparation are up to scratch. Unlike an electric, a single blade will exfoliate properly rather than the electric approach of grinding dead skin in to your face. Many wet shavers who use a single DE blade find that rashes and ingrown hairs are a thing of the past. Here's an idea for an inexpensive introduction to real wet shaving

Add in an Omega boar brush from the same vendor, grab a tube of Palmolive cream or a Palmolive shaving soap stick from the supermarket and you'll have everything you need for under £15.

Good morning gents.

Edit: ordered the Progress Vulfix 660S brush

Got the Muhle R89 myself, find it exceptional coupled with the Gillette 7 O'clock Yellows

I bought some of this for myself yesterday, after trying out a very small bottle of it, Somersets Original Shaving Oil.

It smells beautiful, and works excellently in my opinion. One small bottle lasted me for a long time, but since I bought that bottle I haven't seen it in shops. Finally remembered to order some from Amazon!

The King of Shaves oil that I've been using smells weird, so this will be a vast improvement. I much prefer oil to shaving cream. It works really well and is always clear so that I can shave around my beard.

So you mean shaving creams which you lather with your brush? If so, the are plenty about that are cheap. Superdrug sell an Ingram, which some people really like. That's under two pounds. Beauty at Creightons sell Real Shave creams that are about a quid a pop. Shaving sticks are usually cheap, too. Palmolive and Arko are both good examples. Even the St James of London cream is pretty good value at £4.50, I think.

I had my first ever cut throat shave from a barber last week more for the experience and god damn the difference after was amazing.

Defiantly going to look into getting one of these compared to the Gillette I normally use.

Thank you very much! have a Superdrug close to me so might nip in tomorrow and have a wee look.

Well, I would describe my first go as a blinding success. My face looks like it has gone ten rounds with Edward scissor hands. Though the bits that aren't bleeding are nice and smooth. I am thinking that bleeding is as a result of such a close shave nicking little lumps and bumps on my face..............

I was using the Gillette 7 o clock yellows

Any tips?

Don't worry. My first shave was a similar affair. Shave with short strokes; study the grain of your hair and shave along it, initially; use a pre-shave oil underneath your cream; apply little or no pressure, instead letting the weight of the shaver do much of the work; persevere. Hope that helps.
