Sooooo, Can anyone with the retail version of this game actually tell me how you start playing this game?
Installed yesterday but could not play it as it said it had to be patched and I was trying to play before the release date. Fair enough.
Have fired it up now and went to start it and it patched. Good, right on with the game. Nothing has happened.
Double click icon on desktop and it starts up the patcher again, downloads nothing and then disappears.
Anyone help with this?

I have the steam version so can't really help. Tried restarting your pc, updating graphics drivers etc?

According to afterburner, im getting 100 - 150 fps most of the time yet it felt quite choppy recently. It feels like the fps is a lot lower. Anyone else had that?

I've noticed in past games that if the fps fluctuates between for example, 100 to 150 fps, then the game feels quite choppy as it's flicking through quite a few numbers, rather than a more static kind of fps of sticking around 50-60 which is smoother.
I had to do the following for a few games, do a max fps command that made the fps stay at a certain number, like 30 for example for smoother gameplay.

Not impressed so far, the gameplay is so, generic and old feeling, and the video, too many video's so far are too long and this ridiculous semi subtitle thing, where they highlight and show up some words that are being said is, well, its completely retarded.
The first time I noticed, it was an almost interesting phrase(trickle down economics) but you realise very quickly its just random every couple sentences they put up complete rubbish, its trying to be new, or cool, or different, its just unbelievably stupid as is the god damned constant effects they do in the video's, not sure what to call it.
It's okay, but there is something distinctly lacking in terms of that fun feeling you should get when taking on a group of enemies.

I agree with you about the werid semi subtitles and strange video effects but apart form that im quite enjoying the game minus the 2 lockups iv allready had.
Iv just had a complete lock up also about 5 mins into it
gaurentee you both its a AMD related issue.
would never buy AMD again from my experience.

I am running Cat 12.1 with 2x Toxic 6970s (Stock) + i5 2500K (Stock)
Been playing for 2 hours an i havent crashed.
As for the game, I am loving it..
The colour "Drunken effect" is annoying an cheap, intended too hide poor textures
It's took me at least 7 hours to get this game up and running. I had it pre loaded since yesterday.
I have noticed lately that steam isn't fully downloading all files on some games and I have to keep on verifying the cache. I had to verify it 4 times with each time missing files as big as 7 gig.
Now it works. Folks are going nuts on the steam forum trying to get it to work so if any of you are having problems, keep verifying your files until it's totally clear to at least get it to start.

I have the retail version and I am having the same problem so it is not just the Steam versions. I have done everything that the support pages have mentioned and it is still not working.
Have been on the phone to Rockstar tech support and have sent them a few system files so hopefully they can suggest some sort of fix soon.
