***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Here you go mate.

I’ve got the rescue helicopter and some kind of propeller plane, both with power functions. I really enjoyed building all the Technic models, they’re a lot more fiddly and easier to screw up than regular Lego, it’s more of a challenge.

That said, i’ve promised myself I won’t buy any more Technic as I prefer the final look of regular Lego. I’ve even thought once or twice about selling the Technic stuff as I’m running low on space. Now I’ve got 2 Falcon’s and no where to put the second one I’ll probably have to do more than think.

I'll take the F1 car if you decide to sell :)

Dang! And I thought the falcon was expensive!

I thought it would be cheaper, around £1000-£1200 and it might have been, but I posted somewhere I was going to build it before I’d bought any parts. Someone asked me where to get the instructions from and being the nice guy I am I pointed him in the right direction. He then goes off and buys enough bricks to make 2 of them so parts were in short supply when I went shopping. I had to buy from multiple sellers, in multiple countries and all the shipping charges involved in doing that didn’t help the price, but once I’d started, I had to finish or I’d just end up with a ton of light grey bricks I didn’t need

It's mighty impressive. And a lot of time and money.
Looks amazing though. And pretty impressive build from the designer too!

Oh yeah, I don’t regret it at all, it is a sight to behold. Pics don’t really do it justice but I’ve added a standard 330ml can of Pepsi to give an idea of scale.

Out of curiosity, how tall is it ?? Wild guess would say roughly 8 cans high ?? So around 90 cm in height ?

Thanks for sharing those, you have a few there which I never picked up as didn't appeal to me at the time, but now wish I had.

Well if you do ever decide to sell hopefully you put them up on here rather than the likes of eBay, I'd happy take several of those off your hands. :p

I bet the sets they sell in the £12-100 range far far outstrip the sales from AFOL sets like Helicarriers and death stars. My son has both those sets as well but he asks for nothing other than Lego for presents and £275 as an xmas present is cheaper than an Ipad, console or phone that his friends may ask for :D (That's how I tell myself it's ok).

The adult market has become a bonus but kids still dominate their sales.

Yeah.... there are a lot of £12 - £100 sets and I too buy Lego for my Daughter, still a great toy. I guess both kids and adults are a good market for the Lego group.

Gone to rebuild by R2 D2 seeing as I've got BB8 - and I've misplaced the instructions, in fact no idea where I've put them. To save space, I put all parts into zip bags and flatten the boxes with the instructions, but seems I've lost them. But thank you http://lego.brickinstructions.com/ - its a much easier way to get page by page instructions then going to lego.com - useful site if anyone wants to bookmark it.

Still can't believe I've lost a set of instructions. Wonder what else I've misplaced ... Hope all the parts are still in the zip bags. My space saving method seems to have failed me.

It begins! My first set since I was a young'un!

Thanks for the suggestions pages back, my partner got it for my birthday today. If I enjoy it, new addiction begins! Got some cash from relatives so could put that towards a 2nd kit

Edit*

Made a start tonight and my partner actually got involved too! It was good fun! Got 2 bags done out of the 5 :) so smart to see how It all comes together!

I want the Saturn V next

Glad you are enjoying the build. It is really interesting to see how they tackle issues and solve ways to make the model look as good as possible. I remember building that X Wing start of this year, and it was a really good model and I'm glad you are enjoying it.

Thanks!

Yea just how the nose builds up was really satisfying to watch unfold. Especially when you get the hinges etc to make the angles of the nose then attach it to the main part, some smart people over at Lego;)

Agree. How the Lego set designers work out how to make these sets is just amazing. There are also talented create your own designers as well, the AT AT walker quoted above is an own creation, its just incredible. If you get into Lego more, and buy some of the bigger sets or even Technic sets such as the newer Extreme Adventure you'll be amazed at some of the design work.

I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and I think it's very interesting to watch a model unfold. I'm certainly here to stay I think:D

And now it really begins. :p

I was a huge Lego fan as a Kid. I have a fair few Space sets from the early 80`s.
A few years ago, the wife thought it would be funny to buy me a small Lego set at Christmas as a laugh/stocking filler.....Little did she know what she had started..
Many, many sets later, Including the last 7 modular sets, Camper van, Mini, etc. its a hobby we now share together. I recently bought her the VW Beetle.
As winter is approaching, evenings will be spent building. Then trying to find space for it.
I recently took advantage of the Smyths offer, and came home with the Death Star & Simpsons house amongst others. :D:D

Its a great pastime, I can't think of many that doesn't enjoy sitting down with their kids or partners and build a few Lego bricks. Cause there are some that are REALLY into Lego - and thats where the hobby can get really expensive and addictive. But I have built Lego since I was a small boy and I don't think I'll ever stop.

And talking of Smyths. Might be naughty this weekend and grab myself the Star Wars UCS Slave 1 - looks a nice set.

I think we will end up the same. She really enjoyed it and could certainly handle a set on her own too :D
