** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

If you want a good mechanical keyboard, for not a lot of money, and don't mind the fact that it's not fullsize layout etc, I'd highly recommend going to eBay and searching for Noppoo Choc Mini. I've got one, and getting another one soon (my current one is brown, I'm going to o-ring mod this so it's quieter for night usage, then a blue one for day usage.

Also getting a Cherry G80-1800 for work (blacks), DE layout - but costing me 37 euros for 3 of them, so not that fussed about the layout as I very, very rarely look at my keyboard anyway :)

I've just bought an unbranded mechanical keyboard off a popular auction site for £35.

Its classic layout although it has a smaller backspace key than normal. Used blue switches and has rubber keys for WASD and the arrow keys. Was slightly odd to begin with but perfectly used to it now.

Very good value for money considering how expensive the branded alternatives are.

Coming from a membrane QSEN, I find this much nicer to use. Would recommend the board to anyone who would like to try a mechanical keyboard out without spending a ton of money. For the record I had a Razer Black Widow for a few months and hated it (had to resell it).

Cheers

I'm just wondering what you specifically hated about the BlackWidow?

As I might buy one myself.

My friend had one and he hated it also.. He said it attracted so much dust and fingerprints and the keys started falling out of it. Then eventually it stopped working altogether.

I've been using a Razer black widow for quite a while now, and I have to say it's a nice keyboard. Never had any problems with it, it's beautiful for typing on and the clicky noises are great. I don't use the macro buttons a lot, but when I have used them they're good, and they don't get in the way of your other keys like other people have said. If someone can't hit control on this keyboard, I suspect they'd struggle hitting it on any keyboard.

This is exactly why I got rid of mine, couldn't get used to having an extra row of keys to the left.

Just gone for the Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless with MX-Browns. What swayed me is a 10% off code and the offer of a free goody bag with the order.

Will let you all know how I get on with it.

Darn, I met the sales guy from the company at LITS and he was a really nice chap, I have his card but no discount unfortunately. If I did, I would have ordered the Majestouch-2 with the browns by now. Free WASD keys too, amazing! So jealous. Hovering over the buy button now, just need a push and that would have been it. Maybe I can call them up and ask cheekily tomorrow!

Are there any more of these available from wherever you ordered them from?

There are loads more, but the company only ships to DE, so I'm getting a pal to get them sent to his place in Germany and then ship them onto me. If you know anyone in German, you can get yourself a pretty tidy keyboard (might need a bit of a scrub) for next to nothing.

I contacted the distributor for Filco about a UK Ninja Majestouch-2:

Hi Alex

UK layout Ninjas are on production now and should be available and
listed on our website in early 2012.

Regards

Helen

Now do I wait or do I just buy the normal version!? Argh!

I can't decide which keyboard to get out of the Zibal 60 or the Filco Majestouch-2 with cherry brown.

I'm in the same boat really, I quite like the look of the Zibal 60 but I would not buy it if it was a US layout keyboard. For anyone who does own one I would like to know if it's US or UK layout?

Filco Majestouch-2 looks ok with the added red keys.

I am pretty sure the Zibal 60 is an US layout based on what I seen. It's a shame really because I really like the green backlight on it.
Because of this I have now placed an order for the UK layout Filco Majestouch-2 Cherry brown switches with the red WASD keys.
Hopefully it's the right decision to go with the brown switches over the black ones seeing it will be my first mechanical keyboard.

Filco 104 red switch here and can recommend one, not sure it's worth the price I paid though.. still, it should last forever (it better!) :)

Typing and gaming is awesome, you just have to get used to it, I found myself thinking "why am I moving forward/back/left/right?!" then realising it was me pressing a key down :)

Can you get analogue keyboards?,

As I hate the way the keys are not pressure responsive - only thing I prefer about console controls.

I want to use a mouse + analogue movement.

Perhaps the Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard is the answear (with the thumb joystick for the left hand) - mouse in right (for games like skyrim)

Odd. I've got nothing but good to say for my tarantula. It's ben spot on for years and even after I bombed it with a pint of orange juice.

Have been very tempted by a black widow though. :)

I used to have a tarantula (now have a lycosa) and loved it (more than my new lycosa)

I only got rid of it because it was getting tatty and the wasd keys had worn off (sign of a pure gamer)
