** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I don't think ocuk has any backlit cherry brown keyboards. Like tweaker said you are limiting your options by requiring backlit. I am in the same position and opted for the ducky shine. Unfortunately these have to be imported and ocuk do not sell them.

May I ask where you ordered it from and is it a UK key layout or a US layout, as I've been waiting for a UK distributor to sell this keyboard.

They only do ANSI (US) not ISO (UK), I'm getting mine from a seller called qtan on the geekhack forums. If he delivers that is...

There is an online store which appears to be uk, two words S E. Apparently these guys aren't very trustworthy and actually import the items.

I have gone for the blue LED version of the keyboard which seems to be out of stock in a lot of places. The red LED however is in stock. You can either get that off qtans vendor store which you can find on geekhack or go to tankguys webshop, tankguy is associated with OCN. I believe his keyboards also have OCN branding on them whereas qtans is just ducky.

That's what I said above :p You can only get it in a US layout. You can change the regional keyboard layout in windows to international US and then use the alt key to get any symbols such as the £ sign.

What about the Razer BlackWidow keyboard OcUK sell? I like the look of those Ducky keyboards but the fact they are US layout and can only be bought from over there really puts me off.

Razer has a blackwidow with brown keys out for beta testing at the moment. You might wanna wait for that if you wanna go for the blackwidow.

The stealth edition? Seems it can only be bought directly from Razer and they are currently not selling it, just advertising it instead.

The reason I haven't gone with black widow is because the quality is supposed to be really bad. A few mentions of keys popping off etc after a couple of months.

Ah thats is out then.

Ok so after totally failing to work out what to ask my Dad to buy me for Christmas, it dawned on me this morning that as I have been mulling over getting a mechanical keyboard for ages, why do I not just ask for one? His present cost £65 and he is willing to spend the same.

The keyboard I have been looking at is exactly that price delivered, on the bay, Noppoo Choc Mini with brown switches. I will not get it in time for Christmas but I am not bothered.

I have one question. I mainly game (am using MS Reclusa atm) with a bit of typing. I do not want too clicky as I game late and I do not want to keep the missues up.

Are browns my best bet?

Yes. Or reds possibly, I know the choc mini comes in reds also. Either way, mech keyboards are all pretty noisy regardless of what switch. Compared to rubber dome at least.

Mrinterface on Deskthority hooked me up with a load of different switches to have a play with.

Off to have a fondle of them :)

I'm currently loving my blacks. However, I still find myself pressing a lot harder on the keys than I really need to for most things. It's amazing how lightly you can touch the Cherry blacks. Not used another keyboard since getting this one, as I've not been in uni much. Will be interesting to see how I get on when I'm not using the mechanical keyboard though.

The first day I had it, I did a fair amount of gaming, and my hands felt quite tired afterwards.

These really as good as everyone makes out then? Thinking of buying myself one for xmas. The price seems crazy though! But I guess it's the thing of 'you don't understand the price till you use one?'

The loudness really wouldn't bother me that much I don't think, want one with num pad though. Have PS2 ports on my mobo so can use that. UK or US layout, not fussed.

What's the recommendation then for these?

Filco if you want the rolls royce of mech boards.

They are as good as they are made out to be, yes, but it's still down to personal preferance. Some people will still prefer rubber domes. Do you really need a numpad? Having the extra space between the mouse and keyboard is amoung the best things for me about my Filco Tenkeyless (only surpassed by the switch). I would recommend a Filco as they are brilliant in every way, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. :)

As far as switch type goes, Brown is the safest to go for unless you can try the others before buying.

That mionix is INSANELY overpriced.

Not a bad price for a backlit mechanical keyboard, the Filco (non backlit) with Blacks (Majestouch, NKR, Linear Action) is £120 (tho its possible to get it for £99).

Been playing with the Ozone Strike this week but probably going to go with the Filco in the end as it seems a bit better, tho that Mionix is tempting to try to.
