** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Bought some O-Rings to try quieten down the bottoming out of my Filco.

I'm cool with it but it translates over VOIP too much!

I don't have a key puller, safe/viable alternatives? Bend up some wire?

The O rings working out? Using a Filco with cherry browns and the same issue.

Aside from the noise the quality is fantastic, really satisfied.

Edit - slightly off topic, but the only thing i miss coming from a logitech board are the custom hotkeys. Is there any quality software that allows you to make custom hotkeys / keybinds?

Lol, I thought the same when I first tried the brown switches. If you press a key down gently until it actuates, then release (don't let it bottom out) then the bump is quite easily noticeable. You're supposed to never bottom out browns when typing. It's pretty difficult though, but I'm getting more used to it now. Up to 75wpm touch typing which is a small amount higher than what I managed before on a membrane keyboard, though now I'm being much more gentle and not bottoming out. I'd imagine superior technique will mean I reach higher speeds more easily (it works this way with guitar playing so I'm assuming typing is the same).

Enjoy the keyboard, I'm loving mine :)

I'm really trying to not bottom out the keys on mine when typing, but i'm so much quicker and more accurate when I do. I tend to miss characters when pressing lightly as I don't press hard enough.

It's hard to keep trying when you know that presently it's not as efficient.

Before I could barely make 100wpm on my plastic membrane Logitech 'gaming keyboard' but nowadays with my Zowie I'm making 120wpm average quite easily - all thanks to touch typing and the mechanical switches :). Although some days the keyboard just seems to type and respond better than others... I'm quite sure that's psychosomatic

Got a CMStorm Trigger keyboard from the Gadget show with Black switches, very very nice keyboard and my introduction to Mechanical keyboards couldn't be better to be honest :)

I know it's not out in the UK yet but it is definitely a fantastic keyboard and wouldn't go back to a non-mechanical keyboard!

Awaiting the delivery but as soon as it arrives I will post an update. Should be here today....hopefully!

Made my own keycap puller with some paperclips :D

120 :(

I used to type at about 90 but it wasn't 'correct' typing, I only used four fingers. Just about hitting 50wpm now i'm completely used to typing the proper way.

oh my god, I've gone from not knowing anything about mechanical keyboard's to being an addict in just over a week, I absolutely love my MK-85 and I have a filco majestouch 2 Ninja coming for my mac pro.

Just got the Filco Majestouch Ninja tenkeyless, what can i say, it's absolutley awesome, I think I prefer this one for typing (mx browns) I have it plugged into my mac pro.

I still love the mk-85 too though for gaming on pc.

heheh.

Any anyone who owns these explain the difference in functionality, and indicate whether it's worth the price difference?

Different switches. Looking up a mechanical keyboard guide would give you a better explanation than someone here can give you quickly (might be a link in the OP)

I have the mk85 and love it though, reds are my favourite. I think the 80 has blues.

If I remeber rightly, its just lack of backlighting, USB and headphone/mic ports, I've got the 85 myself since I play in dark sometimes, and it is really good
