Just got back and waiting for the update..

Should keep me entertained for a while :)

If anyone else finds that they are stuck on the "preparing to install" screen for a while, initiate it from the settings and not what has automatically downloaded when you turned it on.

Hope all that got them tonight enjoy them :) mine is enroute for delivery today, but off to London at 1pm so won't get to play it until late (or even Sat)!! :(

Thanks ps3eudo I've tried alsorts changed cables etc I turn it on get no sound or picture just beeps and blinking controller then turns off I'll have a read through all those links to see if it's something that I can do
TBH I cant be much more help as I dno what the PS4 diagnostics are - any specific details might help others here - is this what you are getting?

Ive honestly not heard anything about the controller flashing (though I guess that would be normal if the PS4 doesnt even attempt to connect to it), though I havent really spent that much effort looking - Ill see what I can find...

EDIT: Have you considered safe mode boot or even checking if the HDD has somehow got unseated?
How to start the PlayStation 4 in safe mode:

Follow the steps below to start the PS4 in safe mode:

Turn off the PlayStation 4 by pressing the power button on the front panel. The power indicator will blink for a few moments before turning off.
Once the PlayStation 4 is off, press and hold the power button. Release it after you’ve heard two beeps: one when you initially press, and another 7 seconds later.
Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.

Once you boot up Safe Mode, the following options are available. The first five are self explanatory.

Initialize PS4 will reset and delete all data and settings.

Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software) will every date along with System Software.

There was a rumor floating around hinting to the possibility that PS4 consoles released in European countries could be made in Japan, as opposed to the ones released in North America that are made in China. Unfortunately the rumor is not true.

Not sure how true but from what I read it seems all PS4's are being made in China...?

Got back from GAME in Camden town. Was only around 15 outside but still had to wait 25 mins.

They had a walkie talkie direct to the three police men who walking up and down the road:o

Jumped in a black cab and zipped home no bother.

Quite clever that they make you watch the little promo for the eye camera as it was downloading the update in the background without me prompting.

Think I will start with NFS :D

Its actually a little bit strange, because to pair the controller to the console, it has to boot. I have a spare one, and it does nothing until it's sync'd

I thought 3 beeps was improper shutdown, the red light is the overheating IIRC

Im stumped too having a quick google - somethings fubar and even if it was fixable Id still want it replaced. Sorry baldmonk...

I just assumed he had used the power button to switch it on the tried to see if the controller worked, but yeah as you said if hes turned it on with the controller it must be connected at some level. Again without prior knowledge of the PS4 its a guess from me at best...

If it gets too hot it beeps 3 times then shuts off. The red light is a warning its getting to hot..

3 beeps is overheat or hard drive fail from what I read.

How can it beep and not indicate the red light if one is to show its getting hot and the other is to show its got too hot . Im pretty sure the 3 beeps is a bad shutdown irrespective of the cause
