Demo out next week.

Konami’s announced that the playable demo of Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 will be released on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on July 25.

The teaser gives gamers access to eight teams, namely England, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Santos FC, SC International, Fluminense and Flamengo. Furthermore, all the game’s difficultly settings will be up for grabs.

PES 2013 will take to the pitch this October for just about every platform out there, including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PC, Xbox 360 and Wii.

I wonder if they've done much work on it? Or will FIFA smash it to pieces again?

There you go. :p

:D

It looks good, but then the graphics haven't been the problem, the gameplay of 2011 and 2012 was absolutely abysmal. Konami really need to do something drastic to make it play anything like a real game of football.

It still baffles me how the defenders will simply watch an incredibly slow through ball trickle past them, it's really frustrating how attackers are always quicker than defenders too. You'll have a winger running onto a pass, the full back will be a few yards away from it but for some reason will run in super slow mo and the attacker will be running like there's a rocket up his ass.

I knew Ineista was a vampire

Its a shame that even if it turns out to be the better game without FUT or Club mode I just wont be moving from FIFA...

EDIT: Worries me that those vids dont mention any real AI improvements, more just control and player realism...

ps3ud0

I've been waiting for years for them to get back the fluidity they had in the PS2 days, they're still the best and most fun football games I've played. 2012 was worse than ever though, they really could do with a new engine.
I gave FIFA a go this year and while the online elements are a great idea, especially UT, I just don't like the gameplay. I played it for a couple of months and then found I just didn't want to go back to it.

I'll give this demo a go on PC, with low expectations.

I wouldn't bother with the demo if you're going to give it 5 minutes as you obviously did with 12 :p.

Don't know if you remember, but even in the PS2 days Pro Evo didn't always make a great first impression, they would often make fairly significant changes that on your first few games would leave you wondering if they'd messed up. The difference then was people stuck through it, mainly because there was no reason to doubt them, but also because there was no real competition.

I don't blame anyone for having no faith in Pro Evo these days, they did mess up really bad (right around the time FIFA started getting it right with 08). It's Konami's own fault because now people do have a genuine alternative, there's a lot of people that don't ever need to look past FIFA. But for those like me that can't get on with it for whatever reason (and once enjoyed Pro Evo) I would highly recommend giving the newer ones a real shot. I've enjoyed the last 3 versions, and I would go as far as saying 11 and 12 have been pretty much back on par with the old games.

But when playing Call of Duty I've never ever had an abusive message from a fellow player, I get them all the time on FIFA.

You haven't played COD enough.

Also back on MW2 where party chat on most game types was disabled, there was constant bad mouthing etc.

I notice this too. You are man marking a player, and then one fluke through ball and the defender you are controlling just sort of stops and waits for the ball to pass him and then begins to sprint again which by then it's too late. This happens a lot when playing against Barcelona (side note: the AI Barca seem like cheaters :D)
I play PES religiously but this "flaw" in the game irritates me sometimes.

You have to play and get used to the gameplay every year. I've owned every PES from ISS PES (still the greatest :D) on PS1 up until I think PES 08 and absolutely hated subsequent PES's and stopped checking out for it....just didn't like the feel of it.

Until I borrowed 2011 and refound my love for PES :D. I initially didnt like the passing in 2012 (it was different to 2011, i thought they messed it up again) but I now I think it is good. Like already stated, you have to play it for more than 5 minutes to get used to it.

Nope, not for me. You're right I didn't give 2012 long, 2011 I did actually play it a while in the hope I would get to like it, but never did and 2012 wasn't much different. To say they are anywhere near the PS2 generation of games is in my view ridiculous.

I do remember the PS2 days, but no I don't remember them not making a great first impression, I was always impressed from the outset. I didn't experience anything like what you did.
It's more evident of how much the new ones pale in comparison when you play them back to back with the old ones, the gameplay is like night and day.

The PS2 games do have the very best in the series, but it's wrong to think each version was perfect because they weren't.

Pro Evolution Soccer - Not outstanding in its day or looking back, especially being next after ISS Pro Evo 1/2 on the PS1 which were both up there with the very best in the series.

Pro Evo 2 - Superb at the time, but this one in particular is very difficult to go back to, just doesn't hold up.

Pro Evo 3 - Didn't enjoy this so much after how good 2 was, holds up better than 2 though and actually still plays a decent game of footie today.

Pro Evo 4 - Loved it, best from an exceptional series, don't see this ever being beaten.

Pro Evo 5 - Didn't enjoy this at all coming from 4, probably played this one less than any other entry in the series.

Pro Evo 6 - Another downward step by Pro Evo standards, put up with it because it was the first next gen title but the decline at this point was two games in and about to get a lot steeper.

Saying that I'm not trying to tell you what you should should think about the newer games, if you don't like them you don't like them. I'm just saying PES 2011 and 2012 have been very much in line with the old formula (having put many hours into both). No they're not up there with the best one or two games in the series, maybe not even top 5 if you include the PS1 games, but they're very much cut from the same cloth as the likes of Pro Evo 1, 3, 5, it becomes apparent after putting some time in with the game.

It does surprise me though that you didn't experience the doubts with each new game, with every single PS2 iteration there were significant changes made, often in both the look and general feel of the game. It's only natural to wonder at first if they've messed up, especially if the previous game was one you were particularly fond of.

No they weren't perfect, but they were a whole lot closer to it than the newer games.

I think the majority of the PS2 games were fairly consistent when it came to gameplay, there were changes but regarding the gameplay generally you knew what you were going to get, that was probably the main reason that I didn't have doubts. I think I did have one thing that bothered me and that was when they ramped up the sensitivity of the refs, so every little touch on an attacking player was a foul, but it didn't carry through and the game improved more than regressed. You can't say the same for the newer ones though in my opinion.

Hopefully the demo for 2013 will be enough to convince you to give it a shot. Even if you're not back onboard yet, they can't be too far off, I've enjoyed the last two versions for many of the same reasons I enjoyed the old ones. At its best FIFA has never been able to make me play game after game and not get bored, the PS2 Pro Evo's did and so have the last couple versions.

Hopefully they fix the difficulty curve, that's my main issue with 2012, once you move past regular it feels like they used some very cheap methods to increase the difficulty. Accumulated fatigue is also totally broken, so that needs either fixing or removing.
