I don't know about contact, I haven't taken it off to check yet. But the clamp needs work. I can turn it with one finger Here's a thread on the subject.vocch said:I see what you mean and if your getting good temps by all means leave it be...but i were'nt and now can't fault mine so i don't regret lapping my Heasink.
Edit: According to the review of the TRUE here's a quote ( the Ultra-120 Extreme's base is bowed, we could have ~2C better temps if only we'd lap the base of our Ultra-120 Extreme ) also it adds if you want more pressure is to use ( "extra material" between the bracket and the heatsink's base-top and we saw a 2-4C drop in our CPU's temperatures ) so that could be worth a try.
The min/max thermometer has 20-22C, getting cooler now. I'm surprised its that cool at all, the fan attached is very quite, Scythe S-Flex. I could easily tolerate another in push-pull. Tbh I dont take a lot of notice of the absolute values, dont trust them. The delta is 35-40C to the TCC, good enough. Im sure it can be improved though, the design could channel air a little better.w3bbo said:Great temps for air m8 - what is your ambient temp?
No I don't think so, looks pretty even. From the first mount, using MX-1 (kinda lumpy stuff) line down the middle. Put on a little too much to see the contact. It made it to the edges evenly. I've noticed it on a few now, seems quite common. We'll see a few more results very soon Id sayw3bbo said:Looks like theres a 5c difference from cores 0,1 and 2,3 m8 - uneven mount?
I'v got the same, there's about a 5c difference between the first two cores & the second two. CPU & HSF are lapped.w3bbo said:Looks like theres a 5c difference from cores 0,1 and 2,3 m8 - uneven mount?
Nah all cores 100% prime, I'd say its more likely the two core pairs have slightly different solder bonding to the IHS.melbourne720 said:Maybe windows vista is only optimised for dual core, occupying cores 0 and 1? Extra load on these cores, giving more heat.

Duke said:Nice temps. My B3 @ 3.0GHz idles at 50-53c and goes upto 70+ under load with watercooling
Numpsy said:My B3 has got up to 78c @ 3.44GHz/1.448v using an Ultra 120 Extreme with a Zalman 120mm fan, with a room temp of 22-23c, and that wasn't even Prime stable (1 thread got an error after a couple of hours, the others ran for 9+ ok).
Currently at 40/40/37/36 idle on the desktop.
I've tried reseating the HS, but that doesnt seem to have made a noticable difference
