***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

Anyone have any experience of clocking these chips in an Abit AW9-MAX? I've offered to help a friend out but I've no experience of this board, so any help appreciated :)

Yeah I used to have an AW9D MAX which ran my E6600 at 3.25GHz for months with no problems. I bought a Q6600 and also ordered a new motherboard (Asus P5E) because I'd read that the AW9Ds just couldn't overclock very well at all with the quads - in fact, some even have troubles with it at stock speeds.

As I got my Q6600 first I thought I'd give it a shot in my AW9D to see how far I'd get ... it was a complete waste of time. I upped the board to 300x9 to give 2.7GHz and even that wasn't stable. The same CPU runs at 3.4GHz in the P5E. I'd just forget trying to overclock it in that board to be honest.

There are tons of threads on the Abit forums all basically saying how badly the AW9D overclocks with Quads. The B3s fare a bit better as they're officially supported, but G0s aren't.

Are you using a cooler on that CPU?
Think 82C is a little too toasty :(

lol yes mate check my post with the pic in it couple posts up i have a heatsink problem so need a new one, tbh the 82c peak was in the night in a heated room and i was sweating loads last night so the ambient wouldnt have helped  dam central heating would a air con in winter be over the top lol

Finally found a spare few hours to play around with my chip :)
3.150ghz on stock 1.23V so far

tatts, you have taken longer than me to start overclocking your rig!! your temps are great! with that vid you should be good for 4ghz with as little as 1.5-1.55v.

Doesnt help when either the mobo or cpu is making an horrible squeeling sound :(
Should have a new board tomorrow so will find out if the cpu or board is at fault & hopefully clock some more, just hope its the board as ive lapped my cpu
