*** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note II Thread ***

Not heard back from Samsung yet, I wonder how long I should give it before I just sell off the S3 and keep the money as well as my Note 2, I could live with the dent quite easily then. :p

what is Adam Kernel?

Adam kernel is a kernel that Wanam built from sources Samsung releases. I think the only main thing he added was allowing CRT on/off animation (when you turn the screen off it looks like an old CRT TV would with the screen shrinking to the centre before going off).

I use Perseus kernel personally, it allows OC (CPU/GPU) (not needed IMO) and undervolting (CPU/GPU/RAM) which saves battery, enhances the sound (I assume, the sound is excellent either way) and makes it louder (if you want), you can choose to have the screen calibrated properly to the same/better than an iPad 3 instead of the saturated stock colours (I don't use this, I use the "dynamic" setting for super saturated colours :p) and a load of other tweaks :).

Edit: I'd recommend sticking with (I think it's default now anyway) the 23 toggles on Wanam instead of the stock 15. It adds more useful toggles like wifi hotspot and torch. You can choose which toggles you want to show (and reorder them) using the "AdvanceS" app that will be installed after flashing Wanam (the normal toggle changer in settings>display>notification panel won't work anymore). I'd also flash (make sure you get the 23T version if you choose 23 toggles) the black/transparent notification bar (linked in Wanam XDA thread) to replace the horrible grey one :p.

Cheap option till you find a more premium case.. i got a couple of these cases... Pretty good for the price.

Screen protectors are hit and mess tbh some are not bad some are rubbish. I'm looking into this product once it comes out :)

The toggles are when you bring the notification panel, normally there's 15,stuff like turning wifi on/off, bluetooth on/off etc.

Part of the Wanam install is choosing whether you want to install a mod Wanam made that has 23 instead :).

I nornally write too much to make sure I explain stuff properly, but that also means it sounds more complicated than it is :p. With Perseus kernel you can just install it and forget about OCing/UVing etc, that's all optional and done in an app (STweaks) :).

Not really interested in oc or uv to be honest.

I've read on here that Wanam is good in terms of battery use.
Will instal Wanam and see how it goes:)
( do I need to change kernel first?)
 
Disaster has found its way on to my Note II once again in the form of some kind of battle scars. Taking it out of my pocket while walking up the stairs at work and it slipped out of my hand slamming on to the brick flooring. It fell to pieces, battery cover flew off, battery flew out, Nilkin case a foot away...

The screen is still scratch free, but there is a little nick and the case is busted.

One thing is for sure, Gorilla Glass II is scratch resistant!

Also an update on TWRP recovery v2.5 backups have improved in speed, even though it's still 3.3GB for my backups the time it takes is much quicker now. Saving to internal storage takes 666seconds at a rate of around 11MB/s and on the 64GB SDXC it took 956 seconds at around 4.5MB/s.

Really impressed with that kind of backup time. Previously it would take 20+ minutes to create a backup.

Why would it make a lot of people happy? It's not like the stock battery won't last a day+ with heavy use!

Plus that thing (even the Mugen 6400mAh) adds massive bulk!

Err, cause maybe some people going away for an extended period of time (drive to Europe/flight to Australia/Camping, etc) may not wish to take a charger (or even have access to a power outlet), or others may prefer not to have to charge their phone each night? Sure you can have spare batteries, but choice is always nice, yes?

As for bulk, after all the crap the non believers threw towards the Note series when it was announced, and since, surely Note users should have the ability to keep an open mind to what others view as excessive when it comes to size, thickness, weight?

You may not agree that it will make a lot of people happy, and you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, but the masses and the majority of tech reporters said the same about the Note. Feel free to keep an eye on Amazon review numbers over the next few months, and you'll see I am correct that this WILL make a lot of people happy.

The bulk is ridiculous for those batteries. The Note II in itself isn't that much thicker than the S3.

There is no masses here, such batteries only apply to a minority of users who are going to use them for specialised jobs like camping as you say, it's not even some people, it's less than that! Of all the years I've been using these phone this is the first time I've seen such power packs bigged up like you have.

I can't imagine that anyone camping in the wilderness will be able to make use of any cell reception out there anyway unless it's in Nokia's homeland, Finland where full 3G is available virtually anywhere (was there recently, can confirm this!) but by that degree a battery bank that simply plugs in to charge offers a more convenient solution if the phones simply going to be used as a means of entertainment under the campfire at night or whatever else.

The Note does so well because it's so powerful and so slim and portable at the same time but with a big battery. People doubted it at first because there wasn't anything else like it. Adding a massive brick on its backside changes all that.
 
I must agree with mrK on this one. When I camp I take along my external battery pack. At 6500mA or so it will charge the note twice; or the note once and my wife's desire twice. And I can leave it in the tent rather than drag it round with me and make my phone look ridiculous.

To each their own....

........is no different to someone saying the size is ridiculous for the Note 2 screen. If you want the screen size then the dimensions that come with it aren't up for negotiation. Just as if you want the battery capacity of this pack (without having a power pack and it's cable sticking out of it) then the bulk isn't up for negotiation.

My point (which you are clearly missing) is that the vast majority of people and tech writers wrote off the commercial viability of the Note series but were ultimately proved wrong, not that the masses are going to buy this - I fail to see why you think this when my opening line was quote I think this is going to make some of you very happy unquote. If you consider myself seeing the potential for this backpack as quote bigging it up unquote, then fine. Unless you have travelled back from some point in the future you can't have been using these (?) phones for years. I bought my Galaxy Note N7000 as soon as it launched and this wasn't that far back. Regardless this amazing capacity hasn't been offered before and when you compare the capacity/pound represents a value not yet seen in this market.

I was thinking more along the lines of viewing and recording your track on a moving map with the inbuilt GPS, recording video, watching movies or listening to music by the fire. Sure I could plug it into an external pack, but that is akin to someone saying why buy a battery pack/spare battery for your home when you can sit with your phone connected to a power socket. I like the option to be totally mobile.

So let's conclude our discussion and agree that I believe that this battery pack will make some (or even a lot of) people happy, and that you don't.

Yes they will sell but not how you're advertising them to be! They will be bought by a small group of people in a niche market. I think I'm not the one missing any point here and will bet money that I'm correct in this instance :p

Dear God! You have this ability to take written English and adapt it in your head to what you think it reads (perhaps you are young, or perhaps English isn't your first language - if either apply, please ignore). For clarification I am not bigging up, advertising them to be anything, etc, I simply put a link onto this site because I believed this battery pack may make some of the readers happy. Will it? Unquestionably, unless not a single reader chooses to buy, which isn't going to happen. I don't know what numbers are going to be sold but certainly enough to give the manufacturer the confidence to make it. Ignoring the fact I initially stated "some" we could argue what number "a lot" represents, but this would be purely subjective, so please feel free to satisfy any desire to gamble your money with someone else. Hopefully your 60k+ other posts present a less blinkered view. Have a nice day!
