*****THE OFFICIAL "SPEC ME" THREAD*****

Hey guys, thinking of parting with the cash for something like the below - was wondering if you would recommend any changes?

Thanks

HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870 (£176.24)
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (£123.36)
Antec Sonata III (£91.64)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 (£88.11)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB (£44.64)
Noctua NH-U12P (£42.29)
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (£37.59)

Sub Total : £513.93
Shipping : £10.95
VAT : £91.85

Total : £616.73

Swap the 500GB HDD to a Western Digital 640GB imo (faster).

Personally, I would buy a different case, like the Antec 300 and get a different PSU (better quality) like a Corsair:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...X2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)

Nothing wrong with Antec PSU's but personally, I'd spend a bit more on one.

Plus, the Antec 300 (add a couple of Yate Loon fans to the front) offers far superior cooling over the Sonata.

System Spec £1100

Fantastic thread, I hope OCUK pay you a lot for showing us exactly what to purchase!

BUDGET: £1100

Processor: Yes
Motherboard: Yes
Memory: Yes
Graphics Card(s): Yes (Currently thinking GTX280 VS 4870X2?)
TV Card: No
Hard Drive(s): No
Optical Drive(s): Yes (One, just for loading games on(quickly!), burning off DVD ISO's etc)
Cooling: Yes (Necessity?)
Water Cooling: Yes/No (If performance gains from OC'ing would exceed price of buying higher end CPU)
Cable(s): Yes
Sound Card: Yes/No (If Onboard sound is good enough to get the most out of the speakers then no)
Controller Card(s): No
Case: Yes
Power Supply: Yes (Preferably Modular, if the case is huge I suppose I can do away with modular if it says £££ for better components elsewhere)

Keyboard: No
Mouse: No
Headset: No
Speakers: Yes (2.1 System(Currently looking at Razer Mako's), discarding my old 5.1's and Creative Xtreme Gamer)
Monitor(s): No (Current one is running at 1920*1200 if rig needs to be optimized for that resolution) (Also I am more than willing to splash out £300 extra on one of those 3D Monitors if someone thinks they are worth it!)
Operating System: No

Uses: Primarily Gaming (Fallout 3, Call of Duty Games) (The main reason I buy better pc's is to play the latest CoD without lag, atm I have to turn some settings down on CoD4 :'()
Overclocking: Yes/No (If performance gains from OC'ing would exceed price of buying higher end CPU, without damaging lifespan then by all means I would happily overclock, though (It needs to live at least 5 years))

Hope to hear back from you all! (Or just Shaffaaf by the looks of this thread!)

Also, if you honestly think it is worth waiting for the next range of Nvidia/ATI GPU's to come out, then I am more than happy to wait. I have had enough bad experiences in the past with sudden hardware price drops! (8800GTS 640MB - Bought, next month, discountinued, 512MB faster revisions...) (AMD Athlon X2 4200+, £250, next month, £50!)

Ben :)

The Antec 1200 spec is better if you have the space, as its more upgradable. The Sugo OcUK build is good but for such a powerful spec, I would want a large, cooler case.

Ok guys here go. I'm building a PC specifically to play a new flight sim that’s away to be released DCS:Black Shark.

The developers have stated that I currently doesn’t make use of Multi-Core processors or DX10 but will do in future modular upgrades.

I prob will use the system for others games too and would like it to be upgradeable in the future.

The recommended specs for the game are:
Windows XP, Vista; CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 3GHz or AMD equivalent, RAM 2 GB; Video Card with 512 MB RAM (ATI Radeon HD4850+ or nVidia GF8800+), compatible with DirectX9; 5GB of HDD space; sound card; DVD ROM; TrackIR®; keyboard, mouse, joystick.

I could prob stretch to about £800-£1000 budget but the lower the better.
