*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

Another way is to have your gaming pc downstairs hehe
Yeah..... The Steam Deck was definitely the only likely compromise :D

And TBH, with the native use (which I know gets hammered by some people with 5090s / quantum PCs - but you really do need to be pragmatic about it. It can genuinely play a whole host of games natively, which is seriously good design), and then Sunshine/Apollo for more demanding games, I essentially do have my PC downstairs - in a more comfy bean bag :D

Yea I have a steam deck and have used it more than my switch which I got Day 1

Hehe the way I see a gaming desktop is that if you WFH and do stuff on a computer then technically your so called 5090 is actually making you money hehehe

Try to imagine yourself saying "Oh I wish this Ally had a couple of track pads or something I could use as intricate radial menus for games with loads of hotkeys, or even just for basic mouse input", then go from there.

Picked up an OLED 512GB refurb. Not done any handheld gaming since the DS/3DS.:p
In addition to this does anyone know how quick they are with shipping? I ordered over 24 hours ago and my order still hasn't been packed.

I got a 64gb (since 1tb upgraded) pretty much on release. Pre ordered on the first day. At first it was a bit pants.. a toy with no use. But the various updates make it my goto away gaming device nowadays. I don't stream but so much easier than taking the laptop away.

Yes very much so. I’ve long been tempted by the deck but the general grief of playing non-steam games has always been off putting alongside the price for the age of the system.
I’ve got decision paralysis between the 3 handhelds - I’ll mostly be playing fifa and hogwarts legacy I’d imagine. I’ve had all three in my basket at some point this week!!!

There's so many programs and workarounds that non steam games are generally not much of an issue. I use Heroic launcher for all my gog and free epic games, works well and adds it as a shortcut on the front page (just like a steam game). EA is a bit more of a faff depending on the game, but there's always a workaround. It's well worth it in my opinion, and I've learnt a bit of Linux as a bonus

You’ve perfectly articulated why I’ve not pulled the trigger on the steam deck - I’m not a single launcher gamer and while I am more than capable of doing all the tinkering needed, I don’t really want to.

The reason why the switch is such a fantastic piece of kit despite being grossly underpowered, you can pick it up smash in your favourite overpriced cartridge and play great games.
