Yes like 'honeycomb' was going to kill the iPad and generic HTC / Samsung model xxxxx is / was going to kill the iPhone.

If they still havent managed it by whoring out there foc op system to every landfill phone manufacturer on the planet I dont see the lack of a few widgets really making that much of a difference.

I'm hoping Apple dont go down some desktop-esque mess of a home screen - live updating icons and more info on the lock screen would be enough for me.

Honeycomb is a bit of a mess at the moment but phone wise the iPhone has been matched, but not 'killed' :p

I wouldn't worry, Apple won't risk anything. They will have something good up their sleeves no doubt :)

Indeed, the last few updates have really buggered up the smoothness on the iPhone 4. Quite disappointing really.

This has annoyed me on the iPod Touch front as well. Most of the bug fixes don't even effect us. For the lagginess all we have is AirPlay to show for it.

These problems on new devices only appeared during iOS 4's run. So me think the multitasking isn't quite as swish as Apple would have you believe. I hope iOS 5 has some upgrades on this front.

When the iPhone 3GS came out with 3.0 it was just as fast at the end of it's initial year when running 3.1.3. Not so the iPhone 4.

And then ios4.0 came out and bricked millions of iphone 3g's. :P Let's see how iOS5 works with the iphone 3gs? Maybe you wont be able to make calls like all those people last year. haha.

I'm one of those 3G users. :p I just went back to 3.1.3. Let's be honest, the reason people wanted the update was wallpapers and multitasking lol.

The difference is that the 3G used a far inferior cpu to either the 3GS or 4 architecture wise never the mind clock speed difference, so the 3GS won't be crippled in the same way. The smaller res screen to power will only help it's case.

The problem with the above is it mentions iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 3GS. The first is the plural of iPhone 3G whereas the second mention denotes the actual 3GS.

We never had an official statement from Apple though. If he mean 3GS then type 3GS. :p

I believe the original tweet stated 3Gs so it was clever link bait in order to get people talking about which it is.
 
I'm looking to buy an Apple laptop for uni in a few months and the Air appeals to me- how long might it be between announcement of the Air refresh and it going live on the Apple store?
