dont u need the net framework before u install the display driver?
The Catalyst® 'Software Suite' needs .net installed if you wanna access the functions inside the 'Control Centre' (It says version 2.0 but mine works with .net 1.1 although it grumbles a bit).

If your just running with the drivers then you don't need .net

Sorry if I have caused confusion, I amended my earlier posts :D

Yeah thanks for those instructions Big.Wayne! I've never installed anything but the standard Nvidia package for my past vid cards, is there any reason why I wouldn't want to install the full package?

Also somewhat confused about this link on the download page - specifically aimed at x1950 Pro users. What does that provide that's any different to standard Catalyst package?

(also, any thoughts on the previous question I asked about driver cleaner pro?)

Some people don't really use the control centre and consider it a bit of 'bloatware', some other people don't want MS .NET installed, I'm sure they have their reasons! :)

I'm running with just the display driver + ATI Tray Tools, wow that things got some options I tell ya!

Gonna have a go and ATI Tool later, been a while since I played with that . . .

ATI Customer Care has made available display drivers for the Radeon X1950 PRO as a courtesy to those customers who have misplaced or damaged their installation CD.
Looks just like a batch of dodgy CD's went out with some cards so they are offering to ship a replacement (some people may have dial-up still I guess)

Still worrying? :)

2 questions for the x1950 pimp known as Big wayne!! :p

Does the HIS come out of the box already overclocked?! or do you have to faff about?

Who's wrote the tray tools, is it ATI themselves or is it freeware somebody has made? and where do I get it?

cheers mate!

So thats 635MHz/GPU and 1486MHz/DDR out the box not bad! (I read that in a few of the reviews, wonder why they say 620MHz?).

I've also read that they always leave the factory over the quoted 620mhz. Bonus I say :D

We know that the IceQ 2 cooler used on other HIS cards is supplied by the popular Arctic Cooling company. However looking at the IceQ 3 sticker we aren't familiar with the maker of this cooler.

Well 24 hours later I can state that I am not happy with the 'silent' cooler on this particular HIS card!

The machine its in is pretty quiet, you can hear the gentle 'whoosh!' of air passing through the system and then you can hear 'rattle rattle' from the HIS cooler. It is making this uber system I just built sound a bit 'cheap'

I may have to unwrap the second card just to check if its the same? hopefully its just a dodgy fan as I am quite taken with the HIS card, pity if a little thing like a 'rattling' fan spoils it!

[edit] update a week later: The second cards works perfectly, very quiet (no rattle!) meets my expectations 100%!

Well mine arrives on tuesday, I'll keep an ear out for any rattling sounds. My PC does sound a bit loud at the moment, but it could be the Sapphire causing that. Time will tell.

yeah i got a all the parts for a pretty quiet system but can hear fan noise, all my fans i can control from desktop soo turn them all down and noise dont change soo has to be the fan on *** saphire making it in my system.

have read other posts before about ratly his coolers.

rattling sounds like a loose fitting to me. maybe a refit will solve it for ya

If I apply a little pressure on the fan hub (marked with white cross below) the 'rattle' stops?

Then a moment later it returns . . . dodgy fan? don't think its something I can fix?

[edit] one week later: yup it turns out to be a defective or badly mounted fan, the second HIS model I tried works as advertised!

Another question Wayne, if you don't mind. Does the HIS come with the adapter that turns a normal 4-way PSU connector into the 6 pin jobby? as the sapphire does and I'll need one.
