*** The Official X1950 Pro Thread ***

I'm looking to spend around £150 on a graphics card for a new motherboard that I'm gettind to upgrade from my AGP to PCI-E. Is this the best card for my money?

DOnt bother overclocking with CCC on 7.1 catalyst drivers, mines produced artifacts at 1mhz greater on the memory, seems there are some issues with CCC in these new drivers.

Back at 6.12 again and overclocking is fine :)

Thanks for the fast reply! Do you think the the card you linked to would perform well along side this Gigabyte motherboard and a Pentium 4 Processor (can't afford dual core yet).

Or should I wait until I have the money and get this and a Dual Core Processor.

Sorry for going off topic.

Welcome to the forums. :)

It will work on that board, but theres no need for a DS4 as a DS3 will be fine, so if you want to wait till you can get a Dual Core, then look at the DS3 as its cheaper than the 4. :)

Yeah, since you've decided on going Pentium 4 there is no need for DS4 yet.

On another note, anyone here using different cooling for the Pro cards than the stock cooling?
Just trying to decide if I should replace the stock coolers on my soon to be Xfire rig.

Nope!

For me the important thing about a cards HSF is that its fairly quiet, both the Power-Colour and HIS X1950 pro cards have a very quiet solution in place.

The second reason to change cooling would have course be overclocking but these cards run quite cool as it is and also I'm not sure the X1950 Pro is an overclocking kinda card (seems like its sold clocked near its max).

This is of course ok as for the money the stock speeds are pretty decent! :)

Well my MSI card has a different cooler from the other stock versions, its pretty damn quiet, cant hear it at all! :D and that is the most important thing to me too

Can I just say, the rattle has indeed gone from my HIS, and the solution is to apply pressure to the fan until you get an audible "snap" (not too much pressure though or you'll get the wrong sort of "snap" !! ) I think the fans weren't fitted properly at the factory.

Good stuff Beast, I didn't sus that out on mine and sent it back :o

So then, at last you got everything sorted, lol this thread has been going three weeks, seems a lot longer.

I'm just trying to decide which game to play (I'm well behind lol) Half-Life2 (well it would be Half-Life:Source then Half-Life2) or Battlefield 2? (Does BF2 have a single player game?).

I still haven't finished playing the 'Dark Messiah' demo, quite tempted to buy the full version, the X1950 makes mince meat of it, then it makes hamburgers out that mince meat! :D

I'm just at the end of Half-life 2, then I'll start on Half-life 2 (episode one :D ) Then I'm gonna buy resident evil 4  Then I'll need another FPS because I'll be going cold turkey.

P.S I love my HIS! I think when it does one day become obsolete, I will make a shrine to it in the front room. :p 11800 3d marks for £130 is nuts!

OMG. i've just read this thread on another forum......

Hi, Id like to know if a 512 MB X1950 PRO AGP would be compatible with a P4T motherboard running a pentium 4 1.4ghz with 1gig rdram. The board only supports agp 4x at 1.5v. I've read that putting a 0.8v card in a 1.5v only board may not work properly.
If it is compatible then what kind of bottlenecks can I expect apart from the agp 4x. I'm pretty sure Im gonna need a new psu.

Pretty old board I know but buying a new board is not really what i want to be doing.

Also, can anyone suggest where I can get a new fan for a socket 423(google was not my friend on this occasion).

Thanks very much.

scary

Ordering my Stuffs tomorrow:

Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H195PRQT256DD-R)

Should make a nice change compared to an 80gb IDE and a 9700pro. :D :D

I'm really anxious tbh LOL.
