x1950 pro....mint

i got my sapphire x1950 pro agp for my old p4 3.2 system xmas...i upgraded from an x800 xt pe .....my only gripe is the s-video connector which seems to have changed from a 9 pin to 7 pin socket on the back.....my old x800 was linked to my tv and the cables are run under the floorboards.....does anyone know of a converter....thnx overclockers for dispatching the card before xmas....much appreciated

SIXPIN POWER PLUG QUERY

Got my his 512 1950pro, no power adapter however I know of a shop nearby that sells them, now what worries me is the ones in the shop arnt like the ones on ocuk, the shop one has 1 molex on one end and a sixpin pwer plug on the other end, the ocuk ones have 2 molex’s on one end and a sixpin on the other. Now the ocuk have 3 wires coming from each molex to go into the six holes on the other end, now the one in the shop only has one molex so that’s like 4 wires going into a six pin plug??? Or will they be two extra wires coming from the molex…will this be ok??? .i haven’t seen it you see…..thanks.

Just hooked up my HIS 512mb AGP card and so far smooth sailing all the way. I had to buy a 6 pin converter (very cheap from a well know auction site) and it fitted flawlessly into the card (made sure I bought the one with the black 6 pin socket end).
A massive jump in performance from my X800XT PE card (both in FPS and loading times) and I am glad that I can now sit tight and enjoy my fav sim (IL2 ) until next years "big one" (PCI-e/major system upgrade).

My current system specs:
Opty 146 @2.7 (1.4 Vcore/on air)
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC4000 Dual Channel Platinum Series EB-DDR CAS3
Asus A8V Deluxe mobo (AGP)
OCZ PowerStream 520w Power Supply
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 250GB SATA 16MB Cache
HIS X1950 Pro 512MB (AGP)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro Sound card
Dell 24" LCD
Coolermaster ATC-110 Case
Windows XP Pro

Here are a few benchmarks on the card (not overclocked) using ATI 6.12 drivers/Tray Tools :

3DMark 05: 9943
3DMark 06: 4494 (2136 on my old X800XT PE)

I am a very happy bunny so far and thank you all for good advice along the way.

Best wait for the other chaps to jump in but I fear that the one in the shop will not cut the mustard Black.
The one I bought did have two molex's with 3 wires coming from each that in turn connected into 5 of the 6 pins on the PCIe connector (the spare pin might have been an earth or something); my best guess is that the one in the shop is not for a Graphics card but the for the mobo power, only a my best guess so best wait for the gurus here to give advice.

Good luck either way!

This is the one I bought, make sure you get the one with a black colored 6 pin connector as they will fit fine with the HIS card:

thanks slap, i didnt know motherboards had six plug connectors, im just worried about the one in the shop not giving my card enuff power or not giving the card power in the correct manner????....i will wait for the gurus

when my HIS card arrived, it had no PCI-E connector, my PSU isnt that old, didnt have one!

so i went to the local shop and got the one pictured above.

1 black 6-pin PCIe connector with 2* male molex connectors

pic of cable : (might take sometime to load)

hmmmmmm but you have only connected one molex connecter......so maybe the one in the shop will be ok.....thankyou for the pic

Hi

Yeah, u only need one connected! lol
otherwise the power will be going back into the PSU,

think of this way...

your GFX card is a motherboard, u have power going into it and not straight back out again

Oh i see......see what i was thinking is that the two molex connector cable from ocuk i thought u needed two connect both molex because the card needed extra power, so the other molex is just a spare like the ones you get with case fans.....doh ive been silly...ive been out of the game for a while tho......thanks for your help

FWIW, the PCIe connector I bought had two molex's that required both of them be connected to PSU. I think the only difference in having the one type molex-to-PCIe fitting like ShiWarrior has is that the cables are doubled up on certain pins at the molex adapter as opposed to spread out over two separate ones . That spare Molex in pic is defo a fan power only one.

I had a two dedicated marked "HD" and "VGA" molex power braided cables coming out of my PSU so I used both of them to power the GPU through my double PCIe connector...I figures that the quality of power from these particular dedicated cables where better than the standard ones(most probably used there own separate power rail/not shared with anything else ).

Talk about tongue twisting language lol

hey slap

by reading what you have put it sounds like i need to do the same, but i haven't got any power issues as far as im aware, i can fit 2 power cables into the pcie converter i thought it was odd that its not 1 female, and 1 male molex connectors, its 2 of the same

here look at these pics.....i got the one from the shop.....im installing from cd but the catalyst install is being gay.....its halfway through but has just stopped for like 6mins now......i will try anpother style of install......manual......yes on slaps connecter you have to use both as only three wires are coming out of each molex......i think we will be ok shiwarrior

I'm very happy with my Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB AGP, other than the noisy fan, so I have just stuck an Accelero X2 on it.
It is now silent and has an idle temp 10°C lower than before.
I ran the ATI overdrive utility & it ups the core to 621MHz and the RAM to 790MHz.

no i dont see the point in doing the same.....the reason slap has to use two molex's from his psu is because each of the molex's on his adapter only have three wires coming from them.....i think its a inefficient adapter.....because thats 2 molex's from the psu its taking up.....ours only take one and do the same job.....you may think two seperate molex's will create a far more steady power current to the card....but the powers coming from one place at the end of the day so it depends on your psu......i dnt know i wish these gurus would come and clear it up....

to the gurus.....is it wastefull to have a adapter like slaps?? does my adapter do the same job as his just as good???

Sorry no pics but yeah it's dead easy.
Standard cooler comes off no problem as well.
Will take you 10 mins. Well worth the effort.
