HIS ICEQ3 is kinda an exception to method we used tbh and yes it has great stock cooling, simular design to A/C attached to my GS+ from stock and i even saw further temp drops with just one 120mm fan sucking air (mine and bros cases are decent ones btw) Most who buy the x1950 and will no dought attempt o/c which is when the tears will flow due to heat if it's not HIS ICEQ3 model. :(

Yeah, really don't what the problem is and probably never will. I know it's not my air-flow or power supply. I have one blow-hole out the top of the case with a 92mm Thermaltake, one blowing in on the side panel, using another 92mm Thermaltake. 2 80mm fans blowing out the back, and one blowing in the front. My CPU reaches an average of 38c which isn't horrible. I also tried every combination of fans on/off to improve the air-flow and my temps may have changed by only 1c during the process. So, me thinks it was the card. Cheers.

Good luck I was told I can't get a refund because I've 'used' it.

Thank you and goodnight, good forum shame about the shop.

Refund should be accepted/sorted within a 30 day period. Regardless of used or not. Think its the one of the consumer laws. They shouldnt really refuse a refund as long as the card is in the same condition it was sold in as in perfect condition, and all original packaging intact.

How were you hooking it up by the way, PCI-E, Molex, or Molex/PCI-E adapter? Where in 3DMark were you locking-up? Mine would do this on Firefly Forest Test 2 everytime when Fan was on auto. When I had fan set to always on, it would kick off after the second run of 3Dmark05/06, same spot though, the FireFly Forest.

Crazy, exactly what was just happening to me. I got it linked up thru the PCI-E connection. But I just rebuilt the system again. Put everything on stock on my mobo so 4300 @ 1.8 and made my fans always on for the cpu ETC.

I have no idea if that sorted it, but even if the best thin you can say about this PSU is that it sort of works, I would have thought a x1950pro would not have been too taxing. On the contrary some would say.. so i am keeping my fingers crossed that it wont give me any bother in some games now.

Going to crack open Oblivion... wish me good luck!

If your within 7 Days I think you can cancel for any reason.

For those with the Faulty HIS, I'm sorry you've had the same thing I did, but if it's of any hope, I returned mine and got a working replacement. For the guy who got 2 x faulty ones, oh my... check your karma! Did you leave that old lady by the road because your jinxed! that must be so frustrating!! :(

This topic is getting way too long so you reckon we should lock this and start a x1950pro part 2 topic?

Btw that link doesnt work.

CCC overclocking

I am not an overclocker by nature, but i thought what the heck, basic overclocking is built into the catalyst control center so why not give it a go.

so i let it run and after a while the display starts pulsing and i'm thinking, that's odd but must be part of the tests, the GPU temp is rising and the pulsing continues. and the supposed safe clocks keep rising. recon it reached 75 degrees on the GPU

After what seems like an age it finishes with what are my supposed stable clocks, but what's this my display is STILL pulsing and funny coloured lines of blocks are over my desktop!!!!!!

Soon dropped them back to default.

I have no idea what i am doing with regards to overclocking and neither does CCC from what i've seen.

Won't be doing that again :)

Overclocking is a black art and you all have my up most respect.

Yep, your playing with fire! The CCC tool has locked on me many times, it is not a problem to worry about, it does work half the time if the "force be with you " or black art powers spell book must be turned to the right page. :D

The history of overclocking is really a very simple, one day someone wanted more than they paid for. Now it is built in to the price. Silly really , save on the cpu but spend more on a mobo and heatsink to OC it , It is a hobby for now and I am sure it will someday not be needed as PC speed meets everyones needs and budget , Like tweaking new cars of today ,nothing like cars from the 60s and 70s ..
Voltage is the killer for a fast death , Heat is a slow painful death.
But its fun !

I agree. Over on Guru3D the mods locked it up at 1000 posts and started a new thread. Second thread / part 2 is not growing any way near as fast.

I have read a lot about Overclocking and really haven't gotten into it much. But from what I've read, you shouldn't trust ATI Overdrive to figure out what your card can Overclock too. If you want to try it again, you should bump up your default clocks for Memory and Core, in increments of 5 Mhz.-8Mhz, and then run something like ATI Tray Tools 3DRender/artifact tester for 30 min. or so to test your card at that speed. Then keep bumping up the speed until artifacts appear. At that point you should decrease your Overclock by 8-10Mhz. and see how it goes for a while. Myself, I generally leave all my cards at the default speed, because I don't want to take the chance of frying my card, since I wouldn't be able to replace it.

HI honestjohn when are going to get your replacement video card, it has been some time!

To anyone who is happy with their X1950 Pro;
I'm in a bit of a spot, a friend of mine likes my HIS X1950 Pro ICEQ3 Turbo 512MB AGP, its a super product if you have one that works, but that seems to be rare and I don't like the odds , I am not shure what to tell him cause if he gets one thats bad, well you get the picture. Which of the x1950pros seem to work the best or I should ask which one comes out of the box working and will not be a problem down the road, two HIS X1950 Pro ICEQ3 Turbo 512MB AGP working would be pushing our luck, wouldn't you say?
Which brand is the best ?

I dare not overclock mine after the disaster that was my 6800 ultra. Before I knew anything was borked as soon as I got it, artifacted ALL the time. Nice to be able to play everything at 1680x1050 and have green bits or texture ripping going on.

Hey Machine, how's it going. Glad you got your card issues sorted out and your replacements OK. Can you tell me how you have your hooked up? Is it using a straight PCI-E connection from your PSU or are you using a Molex/PCI-E adapter. Thanks man.

Keep the thread alive....

It keeps people here actively debating in the forums. Also as so many people here have these cards and it seems about 50% of us are having problems with them threads like this make sure the moderator's of the site take note of the problems out there and hopefully treat their loyal customers who are throughly ****** off with a bit more understanding.

No problem, It's still working - been trying out some older things like Far Cry, Ghost Recon Advanced warfighter, battlefield 2 etc... We're having an evening on Battlefield 2 tonight, can't wait (see sig if anyones up for joining). I know a few others have had a "rattle" appear but mine seems cool so far.

The power connecter is a 6 pin PCI-E directly from the PSU, I've got a modular one so it's the only thing on that socket.

Another note, upon receiving the new card I went directly into the ati control panel and upped the fan control by 10% each step, because it seemed a little low, I mean I'd have to fry the card at 90 degrees before I'd hit the 100% fan usage!! I only need to reach 70 degrees now before it hits 100%... it won't, got 8 fans and stupid amounts of airflow control in there!!

Have you got yours sorted yet mate?

Damn i love my system its virtually silent with the iceq 3 cooler on the x1950pro and the corsair 620w psu is very quiet as well. And my other fans as in cpu and case fans are dead quiet too. :)

Glad i got a card with a nice quiet cooler on and no rattling ever on mine. As for ppl who has a rattle on theirs all i can think of is the heatsink is a tiny bit loose somewhere and when the fan reves up its causing the unit to rattle a tiny bit. Check that the cooling unit isnt loose somewhere perhaps.

No not yet. I received their email that they had if for testing on Feb 7th, but haven't heard anything since. Don't know if that's good or bad.

Asked you about you're hookup, just to see if the card may have issues with the way it's powered. Mine was hooked up straight from my PSU on a PCI-E cable as well.

Thanks and enjoy your weekend.

Yeah, that's another reason I bought the HIS. Are you using ATI Tray Tool to run the fan at a higher speed, or are you running the card at the HIS defaults for the fan?
